The 181,060-dwt 2015-vult Waterford open north China end January was linked today with Rio Tinto for around a year a rumoured $12,150 or $12,200 daily.

ATLANTIC
There was talk that Pacific Bulk fixed Kyla Fortune 170,726-dwt 2001-built, which had reportedly been coming out of China, for a BCI index linked short period rather than an outright Tubarao/Qingdao cargo. Early reports circulated that the ship fixed this route at a rate equating to the low $11.00s.

PANAMAX
The Atlantic still looked well supported for Panamaxes and Kamsarmaxes with early tonnage still tight in most areas of the market. South America remained buoyant but more ships in ballast could put a cap on this market although there were said to be increasing delays at around 20 to 25 days in Paranagua and Santos. Some also suggest that with grain slow to reach the ports here some will sources elsewhere including Itacoatiara and possibly the US Gulf into February-March.
The market in the east remained a very mixed bag. Well described tonnage looking at north Pacific cargoes were fixed at improved numbers but rates were easier in southeast Asia, although tonnage here was increasingly looking at the ballast option to South America.
