CAPESIZE
More activity today but a slight softening on the major routes, with the day ending on talk of Rio Tinto fixing perhaps 3 vessels at $5.55, whilst no vessels names reported it was said the owners were Oldendorff, Panocean and MOL Singapore.
The Cape Victory (177,000 built 2010) open Kemen end July was fixed yesterday by PacBulk at $11,800 for and Australian round voyage and Oldendorff fixed the Rosco Maple (181,453 built 2010) open CJK end July for a similar run at $12,000.
Anlgo American were said to have fixed a second Adani vessel for Saldanha Bay/Qingdao for mid August loading at $9.90, then as Owners fixed a TBN with Sinochart for later dates at around $10.20.
The DHL vessel Rini (177,809 built 2010)which was fixed by Koch for Tubarao to Qingdao at around $13.35 is said to have failed.
Cargill were rumoured to have fixed the newcastlemax Star Ariadne (207,812 built 2017) for 190,000 10% loading Tubarao mid/end August to Qingdao at a rate in the low $13's, but nothing has been verified.
Koch's Seattle (179,362 built 2011) open Gibraltar spot was said to have been fixed for business to the far east on voyage basis, but nothing has emerged.
The Mineral New York (175,841 built 2010) is on subjects for 7 Islands to Rotterdam basis 5/13 August dates at around $4.30 with Cargill.
Salzgitter are said to have fixed tonnage for their Narvik to Hamburg cargo possibly with NYK tonnage, but nothing else has been divulged.
There was also talk of Classic Maritime fixing the Pacific Canopus (180,330 built 2012) open Gdansk end July possibly for fronthaul, but nothing further has been mentioned.


PANAMAX
A day with a lacklustre feel with downward pressure across all routes again. A little period activity was heard, brokers said that ADMI was rumoured to have taken a vessel for period but no further details surfaced. The Nicosia Pegasus 81,512-dwt 2012-built giving eta South Africa early August was linked to a period of 6-8 months with redelivery worldwide rumoured to have been in the upper $10,000s, but this remained unconfirmed.

ATLANTIC
Vattenfall was rumoured to have fixed again today for an early August stem ex Riga to Hamburg, but no further details surfaced. Dreyfus fixed a Black Sea to Red Sea stem rumoured on voyage basis no further details were known. Cofco was on subjects for 70,000 10% bauxite from Bar to China for 8/14 August basis 10000 tons/18000 tons shinc, rumoured to have been at around $24.50. An unnamed Kamsarmax was rumoured to have been fixed at close to $13,000 for a Baltic to Mediterranean run but nothing more was known. The Phaidra 87,146-dwt 2013-built open Bassens 30 July/2 August was rumoured on subjects for a transatlantic round but no more details were known. Dreyfus was linked to a Kamsarmax being fixed for a Plate to Continent run for 5/10 August lift at $13,000 daily but the ships name was unknown. The earlier report of the Tai Prosperity 77,747-dwt 2005-built open Rotterdam 27/28 July for a Baltic round was incorrect the vessel failed and remains open.

ASIA
The Trade Prosperity 82,086-dwt 2016-built open Nantong 26/27 July fixed was rumoured fixed for a NoPac round, brokers linked this to Caravel for the 15 August lift but the rate did not surface. The Malakand 76,830-dwt 2004-built open Taichuing 1/3 August was fixed on subjects for a trip via Indonesia redelivery south China at around $9,300 daily. The Zheng Hao 73048-dwt 1991-built open CJK 28/29 July was rumoured fixed at $7,250 daily to Transpower, however further details remained unclear.





ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
It is the middle of the week but brokers saw the market being less active in both Atlantic and Pacific basin compared to last week. The east coast South America as well as the Far East showed signs that rates might drop further. Meanwhile, the US Gulf market was waiting for more business to be concluded which would set a new benchmark.

ATLANTIC
The Elpida GR 52,579-dwt 2003-built was fully fixed for a trip via east coast South America to east Mediterranean at a rate in the mid $7,000s basis delivery west Africa after the vessel was delayed from last week. The Bao Ning Ling 47,443-dwt 2014-built was fixed on subjects to move scrap from the Continent to Turkey but the rate was not confirmed. XO Shipping was linked to taking the Pan Crocus 57,269-dwt 2009-built at mid $16,000s for a petcoke run from the US Gulf to India. The SBI Athena 63,235-dwt 2015-built was reportedly fixed at $13,000 daily with wood pellets from US east coast to east Mediterranean.

ASIA
The Topaz Halo 56,013-dwt 2011-built delivery Singapore was fixed on subjects for a trip via Indonesia to China at $12,000 daily. The Eternity SW 58,098-dwt 2011-built was paid $11,250 daily for a similar run basis the same delivery. Xianglong took the Spring Sunrise 46,957-dwt 2012-built delivery in the Philippines at $10,800 daily loading via Indonesia to redeliver in south China. From the Indian Ocean, the Fareast Honesty 56,841-dwt 2012-built open Mundra end of July was fixed on subjects for a trip via the Persian Gulf to China at $10,000 daily. The Golden Aries 63,605-dwt 2015-built was fixed on subjects for a trip via the Persian Gulf to east coast India at $13,000 daily as the first laden leg after the vessel was booked for a short period trading.


HANDYSIZE
Day six of the repeated drop for both the US Gulf and east coast South American routes while the Continent/Mediterranean and Asia areas again had a small increase. Apparently stems continue to crop up from the Black Sea with prompt dates placing pressure on the supply side going into early August. Brokers still feeling that Asia and the Far East sector has room for further slight improvement.

The Cmb Liliane 2011 built 33,647-dwt was rumoured covered for delivery Lahad Datu for a salt cargo via Australia to China at $8,000 per day. Sources revealed the Yangtze Grace 32,503-dwt 2012 built was fixed for a trip delivery CJK to Surabaya with steels at a rate in the region of $7,750 per day. A 32,000-dwt vessel was being linked to a fixture for 3-5 months at a rate close to $7,400 daily basis delivery CJK and another similar size was allegedly taken delivery Singapore for 2-3 laden legs at a rate in the mid $7,000's.
