CAPESIZE
A slow start with limited fixing although there were those that continued to suggest there a touch firmer numbers talked in the Atlantic. In the east, the miners were largely quiet although Rio Tinto was rumoured fixing one or possibly two ships. In the period market, sources suggested that the 181,259-dwt 2012-built Cape Eagle open Fujian 28-30 July fixed on subjects for a short period allegedly around $14,500 daily. The 177,656-dwt 2005-built Cape Heron prompt Singapore fixed for a short period but details were not disclosed.

ATLANTIC
The York 2015-built 181,000-dwt open Falmouth spot was said to have fixed to move a Post-Panamax cargo from the US east coast but details were not disclosed. There was talk that Trafigura has the Cape Valencia 181,434-dwt 2012-built RWE relet on subjects for a 10 August eta cargo loading from Sudeste to Qingdao which was said to be the equivalent around $12.20 basis Tubarao load. Vale at the end of last week took the 2014-built Maria Maria for an early August 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao at $11.70. It emerged that mid-last week DHL booked the 2010-built Rini retroactive Huanghaua around 10 July for a Brazil round at $10,500 daily.

ASIA
Rio Tinto early today was reported as fixing a MOL Singapore vessel for 30 July-1 August cargo from Dampier to Qingdao at $5.05 then others suggested the rate was $5.10. Brokers then said the Pan Freedom, a Panocean vessel, went to Rio Tinto for the same position and laycan at $5.10. The reports were denied although brokers said possibly $5.05 has been done.
Noble relet the Frontier Coronet 182,674-dwt 2010-built from Pohang 20 July for an east coast Australian round at $9,500 if north China redelivery or $9,000 daily for the south. At the end of last week, the CSK Glory, a 2002-built 173,044-dwt fixed retroactive Lianyungang 12 July for a round as did the IVS Cabernet 177,713-dwt 2007-built open Dandong 20 July but details in both cases were not disclosed. The 169,237-dwt 2008-built Mediterranean Trader open 17 Fangcheng 17 July went at $7,100 daily for an east coast Australian round but the charterer was not reported. The ship fixed 13 July.


PANAMAX
A plentiful supply of cargo in the Atlantic with the market still firming, brokers said, although few confirmed fixing emerging in the usual Monday start. South America fixing was scarce today but brokers suggested several new cargoes in the market. In the east fresh activity was limited.

ATLANTIC
Here rates remained firm with a report of Paccship fixing the 81,502-dwt 2011-built Songa Delmar for 20 July delivery Hamburg for a trip via the Continent and the Mediterranean with redelivery Gibraltar at a strong $12,500 daily to move grain.

ASIA
Much of the business reported today was fixed towards the end of last week although Jera put a ship on subjects for a cargo from Indonesia to Japan little else emerged.
ADMI booked tonnage last week for 2 laden legs with the first a trip from Peru into the US Gulf although again little surfaced. Sources today said that the Ocean Phoenix I 82,471-dwt 2007-built open 16-17 July Limay went on voyage basis to China and not timecharter at $11,500 daily as previously reported. Details remained private. The 2013-built Kamsarmax Ocean Scorpio fixed from Mariveles 16-17 July for an Indonesian round at a $12,000 daily while the 2015-built 78,182-dwt Barwon fixed 21 July delivery Kaohsiung for an Indonesia/China run at $10,750 daily. The Post-Panamax Indus Victory 92,870-dwt 2013-built agreed 92,870-dwt 2013-built went at $8,500 daily for Mizushima delivery for a Weipa/north China run.


ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
The week started positively on all the routes with brokers suggesting east coast South America showing further signs of improvement. In the Pacific, some strong rates were reported to move coal from Indonesia to China but the fixture was not fully reported.

ATLANTIC
Oldendorff was linked to the Kaptan Arif Bayraktar 2010 57,453-dwt for a trip from Saldanha Bay to Southeast Asia with manganese ore at $11,500 daily plus a ballast bonus of $300,000. The Golden Cecilie 2015 60,263-dwt was fixed at $15,000 daily delivery Tubarao instead of $14,750 daily reported earlier for a trip to the eastern Mediterranean. The Themistocles 2014 55,793-dwt has now been correctly reported as $11,500 daily delivery SW Pass for a trip to Brazil instead of $11,000 daily as earlier suggested redeliver in Brazil.

ASIA
The Zhou Shan Hai 56,988-dwt 2008-built delivery Singapore was fixed on subjects for a trip via Indonesia to China at $11,300 daily. Century Scope took a Supramax for a similar run at $10,750 daily also delivery Singapore, and a 56,000-dwt was reportedly done at high $7,000s delivery Nanshan for the same route. Bainbridge Navigation was reportedly taken the Sage Caledonia 2013 58,086-dwt delivery CJK for a trip with fertilizers to India at $8,150 daily. A 57,000-dwt was rumoured to have fixed on subjects at mid $11,000s from Fujairah via the Persian Gulf to west coast India.


HANDYSIZE
A very slow start to the week but again the Indices with the exception of US Gulf all made slight gains. Brokers overall still have an upbeat attitude.

The only fixture reported today was the Nordic Nanjing 2013-built 34,620-dwt having been fixed basis delivery Sweden for a trip to Egypt with sawn timber at $8,800 per day.
