CAPESIZE
It was not clear whether the physical market was still undergoing the same "deadcat" bounce as the paper market. There was some resistance and even in the north Atlantic, there were those suggesting rates were firmer but on the back of very little visible information. There was some resistance in the east with rates a touch higher on the key West Australia/China route.
Period talk included Trafigura recently booking the Genco-controlled Baltic Bear 177,700-dwt 2010-built from Yantai mid-July for 4 to 7 months trading at $10,750 daily.

ATLANTIC
Winning allegedly took the Aquabeauty 171,014-dwt 2013-built CCL-controlled which was Cape of Good Hope 7 July for a trip via Kamsar to China but a rate was not disclosed. There were rumours of a stronger rate paid for a transatlantic round but the talk was discounted.
At the end of last week, Polaris fixed a very large ore carrier the Houheng 5 2017-built for a second half August 240,000-tonne 10% cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao basis the BCI C3 index minus 5.00% basis a full cargo. Vale had been reported fixing an Oldendorff Newcastlemax for a 1-10 August 190,000-tonne 10% cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao but this too was denied.

ASIA
Rio Tinto allegedly fixed at an improved $4.60 for a 25-27 July 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Dampier to Qingdao having late Monday booked the Mingwah vessel Pacific Spirit 2011-built for 24 July onwards at $4.55 although some had suggested $4.50. BHP Billiton had been linked with the 179,213-dwt 2012-built Partnership, a Uniper relet, for a 17-20 July cargo from Port Hedland but others said the ship was nominated to FMG under a COA lifting.
The Alpha Optimism 2017-built 180,380-dwt which had been open Tangshan was reported booked for an Australian round. The ship was incorrectly linked with K-Line in the low $8,000s but others said the vessel fixed elsewhere at a higher number.

PANAMAX
Essentially a steady market and even the north Atlantic showing signs of firming slightly while the Mediterranean/Black Sea market remained firm. The Asia market remained steady with many owners still willing to head to east coast South America which remained a pivotal market.
Ausca has now fully fixed two Diana Shipping Panamaxes for 12 to 15 months booking the 76,942-dwt 2006-built Artemis from Fuzhou 8 July at $9,000 daily and the 73,583-dwt 2004-built Thetis for 12 July delivery Taizhou at $8,350 daily. A grain house was said to have the Pella 82,163-dwt 2010-built on subjects for a year at $10,000 daily but not ADMI, Louis Dreyfus, Glencore or Glencore. The Real Happiness 76,602-dwt 2005-built open Hong Kong was said on subjects for 4 to 6 months trading at $9,000 daily but reportedly not with a grain charterer.

ATLANTIC
Nordic reportedly fixed tonnage for a trip from the Baltic to the Mediterranean but little else surfaced. In the US Gulf, the Vitagrace 75,921-dwt 2001-built open 12-15 July fixed but details were not reported. Sources said TKS has a Cargill vessel on subjects for a 25 July-4 August 75,000-tonne 10% cargo from Mobile to Rotterdam at $11.80. Cargill was linked with a Klaveness Post-Panamax for a cargo from the Hampton Roads to the Continent at $8,500 daily but the delivery was not disclosed.
Cofco Agri was linked with the Seajoy 73,454-dwt 2010-built from Damietta 14-20 July for a trip via the Black Sea to Pakistan with grain at either $18,000 or $17,000 daily.
South America remained active with ADMI reportedly fixing a 1-10 August cargo wth the LBC Green 70,960-dwt 2013-built from the east coast to Singapore-Japan at a tick below $10,500 daily plus a $550,000 bonus. The Red Rose 76,629-dwt 2003-built allegedly went for 5-15 August loading on this run at $10,500 daily basis Gangavaram delivery. Bunge was linked with the ship but the charterer reportedly said it was not involved. Refined Success booked the 75,311-dwt 2001-built Nirefs for a 1-10 August position at a rate in the low $10,000s and the low $500,000s ballast bonus. Last week, Hyundai Glovis fixed the 82,269-dwt 2007-built Star Sophia for 15-17 July delivery passing the Cape of Good Hope via east coast South America to the east at $11,000 daily plus a $350,000 bonus with the business concluded last week. The same charterer also took the 76,500-dwt 2015-built Clipper Viking from Haldia in direct continuation for an east coast South American round at $10,700 daily.
The 75,200-dwt 2011-built Lambay, a United relet, was said on subjects with ECTP from Recalada 27 July for a trip via the Red Sea at a good $13,500 daily basis Cape Passero redelivery.

ASIA
The 16-year old Ecola 73,931-dwt 2001-built went at a strong $10,000 daily from Cebu 16 July for 3 laden legs within the east but the charterer involved remained private.
Sources said the Melite 76,436-dwt 2004-built open 12 July Beilun was earlier reported on subjects for 2 laden legs within the east with the first leg from Indonesia at $9,250 daily.
The Seawing I 73,901-dwt 2005-built ready 14 July Fangcheng was said booked for two to three laden legs but a rate and charterer was not reported. The Noble relet Unity N 79,642dwt 2011-built eta East Kalimantan 16 July was reported on subjects for an Indonesian round voyage but the detail was in short supply. Brokers said today that the Anny Petrakis 74,500-dwt 2008-built remained in the market. The ship sailed from Rizhao 8 July and had been tentatively linked with a Win King cargo from Adelaide to China.
Joint Fortune Shipping booked the Sasebo Ace 75,008-dwt 2011-built from Cigading 13-15 July for a trip via Indonesia to south China at $12,000 daily.

ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
Rates from the US Gulf started picking up today with brokers seeing more cargoes from the Gulf to west coast South America for the second half of July and increased interest for period tonnage in the Atlantic. Sources noticed that coal trading in the Pacific was also more active with so far little reported clean fixed. The Venus 56,568-dwt 2012-built delivery Tianjin was rumoured to have fixed for short period at a rate close to $8,000 but the details were not clear.

ATLANTIC
The Indigo Flora 2013 58,724-dwt was fixed to Oldendorff at $13,250 daily basis delivery Jose, Venezuela for a trip to Rotterdam and not $13,000 as earlier reported. There was talk of the Africa Raptor 2015 61,286-dwt failing on subjects for a cargo of grain from the US Gulf to the east Mediterranean at a timecharter equivalent rate in the mid $14,000s. The Tschaikowsky 58,790-dwt 2008-built was paid $12,000 daily for a similar run also with grains. The Olympic Pioneer 55,340-dwt 2012-built open spot in Gibraltar was reportedly fixed on subjects but little else information emerged. The correct rate for the Rainbow 2004 52,050-dwt should be $5,750 daily for the first 45 days basis delivery Maputo to Klaipeda and $8,000 daily for the balance.

ASIA
YND fixed the Jin Gang 56,928-dwt 2009-built on subjects for a nickel ore trip via the Philippines to China at low $8,000s delivery Lanshan. The Nord Voyager 2010 55,625-dwt delivery Thailand was failed on subjects for a round voyage via Indonesia at mid $9,000s. The Anni Selmer 2009 55,639-dwt was reported to have fixed at $7,650 daily delivery Xiamen for loading coal via Indonesia back to China.

HANDYSIZE
Another positive day except for the US Gulf which lost a small amount of ground but some brokers suggested that since the Independence day holiday owners were showing a little more resistance with further cargoes quoted. In the east, sentiment remained upbeat, brokers said.

ATLANTIC
There was a 39,000tonner allegedly on subjects for a trip from River Plate to Algeria at a rate in the mid $12,000s.

ASIA
The Maritime Fidelity 2010 32,018-dwt which was open Dumaguete, Philippines 15 July fixed and failed for 3 to 5 months at low $7,000s. From the end of last week, it has been reported a 38,000-dwt vessel was fixed for high $7,000s dop Singapore for an Australian round voyage with salt for Far East redelivery while a 35,000-tonner was reported fixed mid $6,000s dop Indonesia with coal back to south-east Asia. On the back haul, it was suggested that another 32,000-dwt accepted low $4,000s to Continent/Mediterranean and a 38,000tonner fixed low $3,000s with a split rate to US Gulf.
