CAPESIZE
The market remained in the doldrums possibly having found a floor but very few were prepared to commit to that suggestion. In the east, there were a few charterers there to fix cargoes from Wes Australia to China and Rio Tinto was today said to have covered a 19-20 August 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Dampier to Qingdao at $3.80. The 180,184-dwt 2007-built Yurimatou was initially linked with Rio Tinto but this was said incorrect and the ship then reported booked to Uniper at the same rate or RGL.
Classic Maritime was linked with tonnage for a 19-20 August cargo from West Australia to Qingdao at $3.95 with the usual $299,000 disbursements.
Monday the K. Ambition 178,929-dwt 2012-built fixed for a 12-15 August cargo from Dampier to Qingdao on private terms while the K. Confidence 181,488-dwt 2013-built open Bayuquan 15-20 August also went.
Korea Line secured a Hyundai Glovis tender to move a 17-25 August 162,000-tonne 10% cargo from Newcastle and Dalrymple Bay to Dangjin at $5.47. Korea Line booked in the 2011-built 176,000-dwt DS Charme, which sailed Tianjin 1 August on timecharter for the business allegedly at $4,000 daily.
From South Africa, Seagull on Monday was reported fixing the 2010-built Geniuship for a 17-21 August 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from Richards Bay to Qingdao at $6.50.
The Atlantic market has been very slow although it emerged that Oldendorff booked RWE tonnage for a 14-19 August 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao at $8.95.
Cargill reportedly booked the 2009-built 169,232-dwt Golden Feng from Baltiysk 12-14 August for a trip via Narvik and the Persian Gulf at $12,200 daily reported basis PMO redelivery.



PANAMAX
A busier day in the Atlantic and the east but still insufficient cargo to absorb the build-up of prompt tonnage and for now, charterers essentially had a wide choice. Some brokers suggested rates in the east were flat rather than off which could suggest a floor would be found within the next couple of days.
The Atlantic saw a touch more from the US Gulf and east coast South America but still prompt tonnage to be absorbed. Rates too continued to slip from the Baltic and the Black Sea.

ATLANTIC
The 75,200-dwwt 2013-built Trina Oldendorff was linked with TS Global for a 5-9 August 70,000-tonne 10% cargo from Ventspils to Ijmuiden on subjects at $4.50 but sources said these details were incorrect.
United fixed and failed with a cargo from Kamsar to San Ciprian at $5.95, a rate 55 cents under the last done less than a week ago.
It emerged the 95,712-dwt 2011-built Double Fantasy went to Atlantic Coal & Bulk last week for a trip from Hansaport via the Baltic to the Mediterranean at $6,500 daily with a similar ship to day unlikely to see more than $6,000 daily for similar business.
In the US Gulf, Oldendorff secured the 2016-built 81,000-dwt SBI Sousta for 10-17 August delivery for a trip to the east at an easier $10,500 daily plus a $225,000 bonus.
From South America, Sinochart covered a 10-22 August cargo from Brazil to China at under $18.00.
The Ulusoy-12 79,422-dwt 2011-built open 11-12 August east coast South America fixed on subjects on timecharter possibly transatlantic, but a rate and charterer was not disclosed. There was talk that ADMI was close to fixing a ship from Recalada to Skaw-Gibraltar at $7,400 daily.
The Zheng Jun 2012-built 81,810-dwt, which sailed Haldia 21 July and was eta Santos 20 August was said on subjects from east coast South America to the east, but again little emerged.
Caravel earlier was said to be still on subjects with the 81,930-dwt 2012-built W-Original for 20-30 August from east coast South America to the east. Early reports put the rate at $7,300 daily plus $230,000 bonus and others $7,600 and $260,000 but both were said to be incorrect.

ASIA
The Flora 81,191-dwt 2011-built open 3-4 August CJK was rumoured booked on subjects for a trip from east coast Australia to India at around $6,250 daily.
Sources said the Olympic Gemini 82,992-dwt 2006-built was said on subjects for 8-9 August delivery Guangzhou for a trip via Indonesia to east coast India at $6,250 daily.
The 77,901-dwt 2013-built Ismene fixed and failed again this time for spot delivery Yoesu for an Australian round at $6,250 daily.
BG Shipping took the Sea Trellis 79,501-dwt 2012-built from Port Dickson 9 August for a trip via Indonesia to the Philippines at $6,250 daily.
The Velsheda 82,172-dwt 2012-built, coming off a BG Shipping charter, was today linked with Hyundai Glovis for spot delivery Fangcheng for an Indonesian round at $6,150 daily.
Earlier the 78,802-dwt 2010-built Triton Hawk went at just $5,500 daily passing Taichung via east coast Australia to India, but a charterer was not disclosed.


SUPRAMAX/HANDY
Still a relatively slow day with rates seemingly under pressure .

ATLANTIC
Conflicting rumours came to light that a Danish owner/operator took on subjects a 57,000-dwt basis delivery Recalada for a front haul at around $8,500 daily plus $85,000 ballast bonus, but the rate was also suggested to be closer to $9,000 daily plus $90,000 ballast bonus and that the vessel involved might have been the Iris Halo 56,034-dwt 2005-built. It also emerged that the Olympic Pegasus 2011-built 56,726-dwt open east coast South America next week was covered but further details remained under wraps. Centurion reportedly took a 55,000-dwt vessel basis delivery US Gulf trip redelivery west coast India in the low-mid $12,000s. It was also rumoured that a Chinese owned 55,000-dwt was put on subjects for a grain run from US Gulf to Algeria at close to $8,000 daily. The Marlin V 2013-built 61,444-dwt open Turkey was said to have fixed with a Chinese charterer for trip Far East at around $12,300-$12,400 daily. Also from the Mediterranean, the Aquapride 61,465-dwt 2012-built was linked to delivery Canakkale for a trip Singapore-Japan in the mid $12,000s. A 55,000-dwt open Continent prompt was understood to have fixed for a trip east coast South America at around $7,000 to $8,000 daily but further details were not disclosed. An Ultramax 63,000-dwt was understood to have fixed from the Mediterranean to West Africa with intention clinker in the mid $9,000s.

Handysize remained elusive as ever. The Hanjin Perth 2011 built 35,177-dwt 2011 built was reported covered last week with Nordenbasis delivery US Gulf for a trip west coast Central America at $11,600 daily.

ASIA
A 61,580-dwt 2015-built was linked to Norden for delivery Singapore early August for a trip via Indonesia redelivery Philippines in the high $6,000s. Later on, a 52,000-dwt was rumoured on subjects basis delivery Tianjin for trip Persian Gulf with a slag cargo at $7,300 daily. On the period front, an Ultramax was rumoured covered for 3-5 months delivery in the east and redelivery world wide in the $7,000s but little further was heard. The earlier report of the Dubai Knight 2007 built 55,418-dwt basis delivery CJK trip via Bukpyung redelivery Luanda at $4,500 daily was understood to have been concluded a week ago.

Little was reported on the Handysize but some brokers suggested that rates were easing a little and owners having to accept less than last done. The Pine 4 34022-dwt 2009-dwt open Aqaba spot was reported fixed for a trip redelivery South East Asia at $3,500 daily.
