CAPESIZE
An extremely slow start with fixing and new cargoes extremely limited. So far little changed was reported and at least today owners appeared to be resisting further cuts in rates. It emerged that Rio Tinto fixed Friday the 2009-built Zosco Shaoxing for a 14-17 August cargo from Dampier to Qingdao at an easier $3.80.
Jiangsu Steamship was said to have a vessel on subjects for a 15-24 August cargo from Dalrymple Bay to China, but details were not reported. Cosbulk paid the 2010-built Hsin May 178,076-dwt $5,500 daily for spot delivery Hong Kong for an east coast Australian round.
There was talk that Oldendorff booked tonnage for an Anglo American coa cargo from Saldanha to Qingdao at $6.30, but details were sketchy. Some brokers suggested the rate was higher.
Vale appeared to have booked the CCL-controlled Mineral Dalian 180,171-dwt 2009-built for a 1-10 September cargo from Itaguai to Iskenderun in the low $4.00 range.

PANAMAX
A dull start here particularly in the north Atlantic where little fresh was reported fixed or new cargo and certainly with Switzerland on holiday the Swiss-based grain houses were absent from the market. Those charterers there was talking aps basis for grain or coal cargoes from the US Gulf or US east coast and charterers continued drop their rate ideas to ship cargoes from the Black Sea.
In the east, there were a few ships reported fixed, but rates were generally easier for NoPac and Australian/Indonesian cargoes as the tonnage list continued to grow.
Sources said the 77,901-dwt 2013-built Ismene failed on charterparty details for 5 to 8 months trading with delivery Yoesu at $6,350 daily.
At the end of last week, SwissMarine reportedly took a Japanese ship in direct continuation for one year, but little else emerged.

ATLANTIC
United reportedly quickly fixed on subjects a 15-21 August cargo from Kamsar to San Ciprian, but a rate was not disclosed.
At the end of last week ADMI snapped up the 2010-built 92,928-dwt Elvia passing Funchal for a trip via the US Gulf to the Continent at $4,500 daily. The 2010-built Post Panamax Cervia agreed the same rate with Oldendorff for passing Gibraltar 29-30 July for a trip via Port Cartier to Fos.

ASIA
The 81,504-dwt 2013-built Ocean Libra spot Hong Kong fixed and failed with Hyundai Glovis for a Geraldton round voyage.
Today 2010-built Jin Lang 93,280-dwt open 7-9 August Zhangjiagang was reported on subjects as wash the Mykonos Wave 2012-built 87,340-dwt Yantai 3-5 August for an east coast Australian round.
Norden fixed a grain cargo from Brisbane to China and Oceanways a 15-24 August cargo from NoPac to China, but details were lacking.
Iino booked the 2009-built 75,843-dwt Palma Bulker from Qingdao 30-31 July for a Newcastle/Japan run at $5,500 daily. The 2011-built Kamsarmax Chorus was reported booked for 2-4 August delivery Rizhao for a trip via NoPac to South Korean with grain, but a charterer was not disclosed.

SUPRAMAX/HANDY

SUPRAMAX
August has started and the rates continued to fall with a summer gloom anticipated. Atlantic was very slow and the Asian rates started to come off.

There was talk about a 58,000-tonner fixing for a 5 to 7 month period at $8,500 daily with an optional 4 to 6 months at $9,000 daily basis delivery Canakkale and redelivery worldwide. Apparently, another vessel of about 52,000-dwt was rumoured booked for a shorter period but details were elusive.
Vale covered a sulphur cargo from the US Gulf to Brazil on voyage basis rumoured at $14.50 but other on day to day business very little noteworthy emerged within the Atlantic basin,
The Asian scene was busier with a few vessels reported fixed. The Asia Ruby I 2014-built 63,088-dwt fully fixed basis delivery Cai Mep 10-15 August for a trip via New Zealand with redelivery west coast India carrying logs at $7,500 daily. At the end of last week, it emerged the SBI Cronos 2015-built 61,305-dwt was booked delivery Ulsan for a trip to West Africa at $5,000 daily for the first 60 days and the balance at $7,250 daily. The Agios Nikolas 2014-built 57,902-dwt concluded business basis delivery Singapore prompt for a trip via Indonesia redelivery CJK at $8,250 daily. A 56,000-tonner was suggested fixed delivery Tianjin for the trip via Indonesia with coal back to China at $6,100 daily. A German charterer was apparently responsible for taking a Dolphin 57 delivery Indonesia with another coal cargo but this time to India at about $9,000 daily. Nickel ore was the cargo for the Jaeger 2004 built 52,483-dwt but vessel failed after agreeing $7,350 daily for delivery Lanshan trip via Philippines back to China.
From Karachi the E.R. Bornholm 2011 built 55,648-dwt went for a trip via Persian Gulf to China with sulphur at $4,300 daily.

HANDY
The Indices were still doing their best to remain positive but even HS6 succumbed today dropping 7 points. Sources advised the Four Aida 2009-built 34,408-dwt concluded delivery US Gulf prompt for a tripwith redelivery west coast Central America $11,500 daily. There was a discussion about a 32,000-dwt vessel having fixed from South Africa trip to the US east coast but further details were not divulged. The Monday factor kicked in with little else coming to light.
