CAPESIZE
Another day of easing rates with a summer lull seemingly impacting on the market. In the east, FMG took the Pacific Spirit 2011-built for a 9-11 August 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from Port Hedland to Qingdao at an easier $3.90 with Rio Tinto now taken the Noble relet Aqua Bonanza 2010-built for a 14-18 August cargo from Dampier to Qingdao at $3.95.
Panocean secured a POSCO tender to move an 11-20 August 190,000-tonne 10% cargo from Port Hedland to Kwangyang at $3.35, but it was not clear who secured the POSCO tenderto move a 17-21 August 180,000-tonne 10% cargo from Port Hedland to Cigading.
RGL reportedly booked tonnage on timecharter to move an 11-20 August cargo from Newcastle to Zhoushan, but little emerged.
Shourong covered privately a 10-15 September 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from San Nicholas to Peru.
Jiangsu Steamship has the Anangel Odyssey 171,681-dwt 2006-built on subjects for a Richards Bay to India at $5,000 daily plus an undisclosed bonus.
It emerged that Cargill took the 177,243-dwt 2005-built Baltimore from Lanshan 29 July for 5 to 8 months trading at $7,750 daily basis 4.75% commission. The charterer did not take the 180,736-dwt 2010-built Samjohn Legacy for period as some suggested today. There remained some charterers in the market to take tonnage on short period.
From Brazil, Cargill allegedly covered Wednesday an end August 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao at $8.70. The charterer was rumoured close to fixing a cargo on this run today for mid-August under this level. Going forward, Oldendorff took the 2011-built Lake Dolphin for a 17-27 September cargo on this run at $9.05.
Hyundai Glovis fixed the Proti 2015-built for a 22-26 August 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Pepel to Qingdao at a weaker $8.825 basis 1.25%.
The Red Cherry 182,419-dwt 2015-built Rotterdam prompt fixed for a trip via Trinidad to the east with Oldendorff, but a rate was not reported.



PANAMAX
Another gloomy day here with rates continuing to slip both in the Atlantic and the east. Several ships have now been fixed from east coast South America but here too rates have started to ease. Further north trading was piecemeal with for both transatlantic trading and fronthaul.
Several ships were fixed in the east but this was more the result of owners chasing charterers and dropping their rates. Brokers today said the cargo list has contracted significantly.
Period remained scarce but Sinoeast booked the Darwin 2002-built 73,870-dwt open 29-31 July Longkou for period business, but details were not disclosed. Sinoeast allegedly put the ship on the market to relet. The ship had been reported fixed for a single trip for a NoPac round in the low $5,000s daily and there was some talk the period rate was not too much more

ATLANTIC
The 75,396-dwt 2012-built Feng Huang Feng prompt Tarragona fixed for a transatlantic round, but details were not reported.
Atlantic Coal & Bulk reportedly took the Astromar 87,144-dwt 2006-built open Amsterdam spot fixed for a trip to the eastern Mediterranean with re delivery Cape Passero at a rate in the mid $7,000 daily range.
Cobelfret covered a 10-16 August cargo from Kamsar to San Ciprian on private terms but had been aiming at $6.50.
In the US Gulf the Rosco Litchi 82,513-dwt 2011-built eta Panama 1-3 Augus fixed from foir a 70 day trip from the US Gulf to the east at $11,000 daily plus a $210,000 bonus.
TKS failed with a Norden ship for an 8-18 August 70,000-tonne 10% cargo from Mobile to Rotterdam at $9.15. Sources said the ship went back on dates.
South America had been the steadier but here too rates were starting to slide. Rates for eco tonnage LMEs were now in the mid to low $7,000s and a similar bonus.
The DL Acacia 81,568-dwt 2013-built open 7 August east coast South America fixed on private terms while the Ocean Favour an 18-year old 72,400-dwt fixed to Transgrain for a 10-20 August cargo from east coast South America to the east, but a rate was not reported.
Transatlantic business included talk that Bunge took the Chrysanthi S 80,268-dwt 2012-built for a trip from east coast South America to the Continent at $8,100 daily.
Ultrabulk reportedly booked a Kamsarmax from Sepetiba to the US Gulf at $7,500 daily.

ASIA
Here the KM Hongkong 82,131-dwt 2010-built open Dandong early August fixed for an Australian round in the low-mid $6,000s daily.
The Ionic Kelos 2014-built 82,250-dwt was said to have gone for 29 July delivery Bayuquan for a trip via east coast Australia for a trip to India at something over $6,000 daily.


SUPRAMAX/HANDYSIZE
SUPRAMAX
Overall a very uninspiring day with most routes on their continual downwards trend.
A 56,810-dwt allegedly fixed and failed for a trip delivery Izmir via Black Sea to the Red Sea with redelivery Port Said at about $7,000 daily but no one could confirm the exact details. The JS Narmada 2013-built 63,500-dwt was fixed at $9,000 daily dop Constantza for a trip redelivery Cape Town. Rumours surrounded a 57,000-tonner fixing delivery Santos trip Singapore-Japan with sugar at about $8,500 daily plus an $85,000 ballast bonus. There was talk about a few US Gulf deliveries being concluded but full information still elusive.
Apparently a Supramax was fixed delivery Indonesia trip China at $7,200 daily and a 57,239-dwt was being linked to a trip delivery Singapore via Australia to China at about $6,500 daily. The Lanhai Hexie 2011-built 56,620-dwt concluded some nickel ore business basis delivery Kosichang trip via Philippines redelivery China at $7,000 daily. A couple of coal cargoes are booked on subjects but no details leaked so far.

HANDYSIZE
The Handy indices was yet another repeat of the last few days with HS3+4 down again. There were small gains made in Asia but some brokers suggested its going up and some with the suggestion will come down but time will tell the winner.
A grain house was reported taking a 27,000-dwt delivery Adriatic for a trip via Varna to New York with cement at $6,500 daily but with $50,000 hold cleaning. Sources advised the Ansac Splendor 32,739-dwt 2005 built fixed for delivery Spanish Mediterranean trip to east coast South America at $4,000 daily. The Crane Island 2009 built 32,155-dwt concluded a trip delivery Kashima prompt via CIS redelivery north China with coal at $5,500 daily.
