CAPESIZE
An upbeat finish to the week with some heralding and early start to an anticipated stronger for the fourth quarter. The more cautious were simply hoping that any correction would result in a gentler fall in rates and not to previous lows. Holidays in Singapore Monday and China at the end of the week could prove a test of nerves. An active Brazil market with fewer ballasters saw rates improve and charterers look to Atlantic ships for their cargoes and in turn impacting on north Atlantic rates with rates generally stronger. A slower day as expected with some charterers deciding to wait until next week and trying to put pressure on owners. Today saw still firmer rates reported.
From Brazil, Cargill was rumoured to have booked the KSL Seoul 180,000-dwt 2015-built for a Tubarao to Qingdao at $11.80, but this was being denied. There was also talk earlier that the 2011-built 180,399-dwt Pacific Spirit fixed direct with Vale for a Tubarao/Qingdao run, but little else emerged.
Trafigura Thursday took the EdF relet China Peace 2005-built for a 1-10 October 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Sudeste to Qingdao at $12.00.
Sources said a 4-9 October cargo fixed from Pepel to Qingdao at $11.80 with an Atlantic ship, but little else emerged.
TKS conceded $6.14 to a Navig8 vessel for a 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from Sepetiba to Rotterdam.
Sources suggested today that Cargill took the York, 180,000-dwt 2016-built open Skaw 19 September for a Narvik round close to the mid $8,000 daily range.
In the east, FMG was reported fixing the Anangel Unity, a Panocean relet, 2015-built for a 23-25 September 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from Port Hedland to Qingdao at $5.70 and the a Newcastlemax for the same laycan at the same rate. The Nymphe reportedly fixed late Thursday at $5.70.
Topsail reportedly booked the Mount Sinai 177,656-dwt 2006-built for 26-30 September 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from West Australia to China at a tick under $5.70.
Engie booked a CCL vessel for second half October 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from Nacala to Rotterdam at firmer $6.50, a rate that would suggest at least the mid $5.00s.

PANAMAX
A slow day with the north Atlantic still struggling to maintain current levels with the emphasis still on front haul but this too slowed today.
The east has improved with higher rates evident but still a market dependent on size and position. There has been a clear out of early ships and some improved rates were agreed. There remained interest for NoPac and Australia with India still one of the favoured destinations.

ATLANTIC
The Paganini 75,118-dwt 2008-built spot Amsterdam fixed for a trip via the Baltic with redelivery Cape Passero at $5,000 daily, but a charterer was not disclosed.
The Konstantinos II 81,698-dwt 2013-built open Gibraltar around 10 September fixed for a trip to the east via the St.Lawrence or the US east coast with Caravel at $9,990 daily. Norden took the 2008-built 75,596-dwt Bulk Monaco for 25 September-4 October delivery east coast South America for a trip to Southeast Asia at $7,650 daily plus a $265,000 bonus.

ASIA
There was a talk that a Japanese-controlled Kamsarmax fixed from Kobe for an east coast Australia round at $6,700 daily, but details were not reported.
Norden booked a ship open in China for a NoPac round with petcoke at $5,250 daily, but little else emerged.
Post Panamaxes were quite active and Rio Tinto reportedly took the Hebei Qinhuangdao 93,721-dwt 2011-built open 20 September Hong Kong fixed on subjects for a trip via Weipa to China at $7,000 daily.
Sinoeast booked the Nikiland 2009-built 93,251-dwt open Nantong 8-15 September for a trip via Port Hedland to China, but a rate was not disclosed.
The Jin Hang 93,069-dwt 2012-built, open Lanqiao 10-15 September, was linked with the Sinoeast business, but the ship has fixed other business. Norvic booked the 95,308-dwt 2013-built Alkimos from Surabaya spot for a trip via Indonesia to west coast India at $8,500 daily.
Guodian booked the 2012-built Post Panamax Jin Qui from Qinzhou for two laden legs in the east with the first from the NoPac at $6,500 daily.
SAIL fixed has a 21-30 September 75,000-tonne 5% coking coal cargo from Newport News to east coast India at $18.95.

ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
The Atlantic remained fairly evenly balanced going forward into next week but sources suggested the Asia routes seemed to have reached a peak. Added to this there is a public holiday in Singapore Monday and China will be having Thursday and Friday off next week.

ATLANTIC
The Zealand Rotterdam 57,157-dwt 2012-built was said to have fixed for a sugar run from east coast South America for a trip Chittagong at $10,400 daily plus a $130,000 ballast bonus. The Spar Apus 63,000-dwt was rumoured fixed to Panocean basis delivery east coast South America for a trip redelivery Southeast Asia at $11,250 daily plus $140,000 ballast bonus. The Tenki Maru 52,000-dwt open Santos was rumoured booked but conflicting reports were circulated. An Ultramax was said fixed in excess of $8,000 daily for a trip basis delivery Continent and redelivery US east coast. The Pacific Sea 52,000-dwt open Cristobal was on subjects but no further details came to light. A 60,900-dwt open US Gulf was rumoured fixed for a trip redelivery Mombasa but no further details were heard. There was talk that a 47,000 open on the Continent was fixed for a short period with redelivery Atlantic but again specific details remained vague.

ASIA
There was rumour of two Supramax types open Singapore both fixing at $6,000 daily for coal from Indonesia to China. However, the Marylisa V 52,000-dwt failed on subjects at $7,600 daily basis Singapore and a 57,000-dwt failed at the mid $6,000s for similar business basis Penang delivery.
AMC took the Yue Dian 53 56,970-dwt 2010-built for nickel ore from the Philippines to China at $6,500 daily with the ship open Yangjiang. Similarly, the Pearl Halo 58,096-dwt 2009-built fixed to EPGN at $6,750 daily delivery Hong Kong. A 58,000-tonner was reported to have fixed for India coastal business at aps east coast at $8,800 daily to west coast.

HANDYSIZE
A quiet end to the week with little movement across all routes. Brokers reported that a 37,000-dwt was put on subjects basis delivery Canakkale for a trip redelivery US west coast in the upper $8,000s but further details were not disclosed. From the east Lauritzen covered a 32,000-dwt basis delivery CJK for a trip to South Australia with steels and project cargo at $4,500 daily for the first 30 days and $6,000 for the balance of the trip.
