CAPESIZE
Another positive day for the big ships with Brazil still active although for now, West Australia rates have steadied not surprisingly as the week draws to close and some of the majors step back from the market. However, as most brokers know they will be back in the market.
There was talk that Vale took three ships for end September-early October from Tubarao to Qingdao and more than likely fixed on a BCI C3 basis. There was talk the China Peace 174,413-dwt 2005-built and the Frontier Coronet 182,674-dwt 2011-built were two of the ships involved. The Kiran Turkiye 175,013-dwt 2011-built was said to for mid-October. The 176,104-dwt 2010-built Great Qin open Jintang 14 September was said to have gone to Oldendorff for a 23-30 October cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao at $11.70. There was also talk that Caravel fixed tonnage for a 1-10 October cargo on this run at the same rate. Louis Dreyfus earlier took the Premiership 2010-built 170,024-dwt at $11.50.
Further north, the Alexandra P 2009-built 181,255-dwt was reported fixed to Panocean for Cape Passero delivery 15 September for the run east at $15,500 daily, but further details were not disclosed. ArcelorMittal reported booked the 181,000-dwt 2015-built Capricorn One for a cargo from Port Cartier to Rizhao at $13.50.
The Indian Friendship 2013-built, spot Trinidad having reportedly had a cargo cancelled fixed to Hyundai Glovis to a Tubarao/Qingdao cargo at $11.30.
Earlier Polaris booked the Nightlife 2015-built 179,455-dwt for delivery retroactive Mundra 2 September for a Brazil round, but a rate was not reported. Polaris then relet the vessel to Cargill for a 2-7 October cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao, but a rate was not reported.
It emerged that Oldendorff recently booked the Sunbeam 171,199-dwt 2000-built retroactive Singapore 30 August for 2 laden legs with east redelivery at $9,500 daily plus a $195,000 bonus.
In the Atlantic, further north, Engelhart (BTG) covered a 1-10 October 160,000-tonne 10% coal cargo from Puerto Bolivar to Qingdao at an improved $6.00. The York, 180,000-dwt 2016-built open Skaw 19 September fixed some sort of transatlantic round, but little else emerged.
In the east, CJ Express fixed on subjects the Etoile 2003-built 175,980-dwt open Xiamen 13-15 September for a round in the east at $12,000 daily and then the ship eventually fixed to Louis Dreyfus who in turn relet it, but details were not disclosed. There was a rumour the ship fixed to Rio Tinto, but this was discounted. Rio Tinto was rumoured fixing at $5.70, but this was not proved. The Yuritamou, as Caravel relet, was said to have gone to Rio Tinto at a tick under $6.00.
It emerged that Oldendorff recently booked the Sunbeam 171,199-dwt 2000-built retroactive Singapore 30 August for 2 laden legs with east redelivery at $9,500 daily plus a $195,000 bonus.
Oldendorff covered a 20-29 September for a 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from Tanjung Bara to Mundra, but a rate was not reported.


PANAMAX
The Atlantic so far remained largely about front haul but in a still thin market for reported fixtures.
The east showed some improvement but it remained a struggle for owners as owners backed off from the first flush of fixing.
Period talk was in evidence at Cargill booked two ships from the same owner for 1 option 1 year's trading booking the Trade Resource 82,031-dwt 2016-built from Lanshan 15 September at $7,000 daily and $8,000 daily and the 2012-built 81,171-dwt Trade Will from Taichung 25-30 September at $6,500 daily and $7,000 daily.
Cobelfret allegedly took the 2011-built 93,191-dwt Antemis from Singapore 22-23 September for 5 to 7 months trading at $7,000 daily and not 7 to 10 months at $6,750 daily.

ATLANTIC
The 2013-built 81,842-dwt Scarlet Island eta Southwest Pass 15-20 September was reported on subjects for a trip to the east at $10,800 daily plus a $280,000 bonus but some also suggested $10,500 daily plus a $275,000 bonus. It emerged today that ADMI took the 2001-built Nordelbe from Southwest Pass 17-18 September for the run east from the gulf at $10,250 daily and $225,000 bonus. There was talk that Cargill booked tonnage for a 23 September-2 October delivery US Gulf for a trip to the China via the Cape of Good Hope in the low $10,000s daily and the low $200,000s.
United was said to be using in-house tonnage the Clipper Vision 77,154-dwt 2015-built for a cargo from Kamsar to China and the Arethusa 73,503-dwt 2007-built for a cargo from Tromteas to China.
The Jia Da 75,431-dwt 2010-built open 13-15 September in Tarragona fixed to Raffles for a trip to the east reportedly at $10,500 daily, but little else emerged. The Konstantinos II 81,698-dwt 2013-built open Gibraltar around 10 September fixed for a trip east with Caravel, but a rate was not reported.
Greig Star took the Panamax Energy 1998-built 74,000-dwt spot Dunkirk for a trip from Aaheim to India, but again a rate was not reported.
Inter-Atlantic trading included Norden booking the 2005-built 76,602-dwt Medi Venezia, open Ventspils for a 21-27 September cargo from Murmansk to the Continent at $4,000 daily.
Cargill booked a Post-Panamax open ARA for an 11-20 September cargo from Narvik to Rotterdam on subjects at $3,500 daily, but little else emerged. D'Amico covered a Vysotsk/Nordenam cargo on voyage basis.
Cargill was said to have taken a Marmaras 92,000-tonners aps US Gulf 24-28 September for a trip to the Continent at $10,000 daily. Noble has now fixed again on subjects a cargo from Puerto Bolivar to Italy.
Langlois booked a Kamsarmax in direct continuation basis Port Said for a Black Sea/Red Sea run with redelivery Port Said, but little else surfaced.

ASIA
Essentially a busier week with increased NoPac business and still cargoes to be moved from Indonesia and business into India. Rates have moved but have largely been sensitive to position and the description of the ship with some age-related sensitivity.
Cargill booked the 74,427-dwt 2001-built Alpha Afovos for 12-14 September delivery CJK for a NoPac round at $5,250 daily. BG Shipping took the 2011-built Kamsarmax Rosco Palm also CJK 9-10 September for a NoPac round at $5,800 daily.
The Andria 2006-built 76,300-dwt open Inchon 14-18 September was rumoured fixed on subjects for a NoPac round in the upper $5,000s, but others said the business was done not done.
The 2015-built 81,210-dwt SBI Bolero spot Cai Lan fixed for a quick trip from Indonesia to Malaysia at $6,000 daily, but a charterer was not disclosed. There was also talk earlier that the RBD Italia 87,363-dwt 2010-built was said on subjects with Guodian for a trip from Indonesia to south China at $5,500 daily, but this was said to be inaccurate.


ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
ATLANTIC
ArcelorMittal was said to have put 55,000-tonne 10% iron ore pellet cargo from Port Cartier to Saldanha Bay on subjects but details were lacking. A Supramax was reported to have fixed basis the Black Sea trip to Southeast Asia for 16-20 September at $19.65. An Ultramax allegedly was rumoured on subjects for a trip east coast South America redelivery Denmark but further details were not known. Some scrap movement with the Hermann S 2009-built 56,732-dwt was fixed delivery Continent trip redelivery east Mediterranean at $9,000 daily. The Universal Baltimore 2011-built 56,800-dwt was fixed basis delivery Ghent redelivery east Mediterranean in the mid $8,000s.

PACIFIC
A Dolphin 57 type open CJK was fixed for a trip via CIS to Southeast Asia at $5,600 daily with steel, but another similar sized vessel open Lianyungang failed on subjects for the same trip at $6,300 daily. A 55,000-dwt 2013-built was placed on subjects at $8,100 daily basis Gresik for coal via Indonesia to CJK. The same was fixed on a 57,000-dwt at mid $6,000s basis Penang delivery. The Nordic Stavanger 56,172-dwt 2011-built delivery Singapore was linked for a trip via Australia to north China at $6,500 daily. Rumours emerged that the Marylisa V 52,000-dwt was on subjects basis delivery Singapore trip via Indonesia redelivery north China at $78,600 daily.
The Asia Emerald IV 58,018-dwt 2012-built failed on subjects at $8,000 daily for clinker via Thailand to Sri Lanka and broker said a rate in the $7,000s was being traded on a Supramax open Singapore for such stem. A Supramax open spot at Jubai Ali was rumoured to have fixed at $7,000 daily to Chittagong. It also emerged that 45,000-tonne 10% coal cargo was covered from South Africa to Chittagong at close to $14.00.

HANDYSIZE
A quiet day on the Handy size with little being talked about or reported. Brokers suggested that 33-35,000-tonne scrap cargo was put on subjects for Ghent to Egypt but no further details came to light.
The Diana Bolten 38,273-dwt 2011-built open Durban was reported to have fixed on Monday for a trip redelivery Singapore-Japan at $7,000 daily. It finally emerged that the Lake Arafura 2001-built 28,471-dwt was covered basis delivery Recalada for a trip redelivery Skaw-Passero at $6,600 daily, but again this was concluded earlier in the week. The Ocean Beauty 2012-built 38,273-dwt was reported fixed basis delivery Continent trip redelivery Brazil at $6,250 daily.
