CAPESIZE
A slow today but with rumours in the market and rates thus far holding. There were West Australia/China cargoes still to be fixed and rates were hovering around $4.90 with several owners still trying to hold out for $5.00.
The 2011-built 179,362-dwt Seattle went to Hyundai Glovis at the end of last week for prompt delivery Kaohsiung for a West Australian round at $9,350 daily while the Naval Bulk relet Hebei Dynasty 180,168-dwt 2011-built went at $8,000 daily for retroactive delivery Caofeidian for a trip via Newcastle to Kemen 창?혫 a good redelivery 창?혫 but a charterer was not disclosed.
Rates were still firming from Brazil with talk starting with a report that Cargill fixed a Newcastlemax for an 180,000-tonne 10% cargo from CSN to Qingdao at $10.50 and then a suggestion that Cargill booked a SwissMarine vessel for a Tubarao/Qingdao run at $10.15 or possibly $10.10. The 179,423-dwt 2012-built Aashna was rumoured fixed for a C3 from Tubarao to Qingdao at $10.40 possibly for early October but others said the ship fixed direct at $10.25. There was also talk that the Delos 175,157-dwt 2012-built was also linked Caravel for a Brazil/China cargo.
Further north, it emerged that EdF booked the KSL Santos, a 2014-built CCL relet retro Ijmuiden 1 September for a Colombian round at $6,750 daily with Skaw-Gibraltar redelivery and not Skaw-Cape Passero as earlier reported.

PANAMAX
A slow start with little action in either the Atlantic or the east. There were some disappointing rates agreed from the US Gulf to the east and South American trading remained very slow.
In the east, some spot ships in China were willing to fix sub $5,000 daily for round voyages but otherwise, it was very much a day of wait and see.
Priminds last week booked the Athanasia C 82,000-dwt 2012-built from Nagoya 2-5 September for 4 to 7 months trading at $6,500 daily.

ATLANTIC
ADMI took the BTG Denali 81,085-dwt 2015-built for 25-30 September delivery Southwest Pass for a trip via the Cape of Good Hope out to the east at what some brokers called a disappointing $10,250 daily plus a $230,000 bonus. Today some suggested the rate was $10,750 daily plus a $275,000 bonus for the well-described ship. Oldendorff booked the 2013-built Kamsarmax Aristidis for 13-15 September delivery for a trip with petcoke to India at $10,750 daily plus a $275,000 bonus.

ASIA
Bunge took the United relet Clipper Vision 76,600-dwt 2015-built for spot delivery Ulsan for a NoPac round at $6,000 daily.
The 2001-built 75,563-dwt Grace One open 7-8 September CJK fixed on subjects for a NoPac round with grains, but details were not reported.
It was not clear who took the Seas 7 74,475-dwt 2006-built for Meizhou 10-15 September for 2 laden legs with delivery Meizhou 10-15 September at $5,500 daily.
The Necklace 92,903-dwt 2012-built open Belawan 2-3 September fixed for a South Africa/China run on subjects, but a rate/charterer was not reported.

ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
A quiet start with Labour Day celebrations in the United States today leading to very little being reported from the Atlantic basin. Brokers commented that a negative feeling coming to the fore.

In the east, the Oceanlove 56,704-dwt 2013-built open CJK was fixed to COSCOL for a trip to West Africa at $4,750 for the first 65 days but the rate remained unknown for the balance. Brokers said that vessels open as far as CJK and north still managed to fix nickel ore stems from the Philippines. The Mandarin Dalian 56,605-dwt 2010-built was fixed for nickel ore to China at high $6,000s basis delivery in Kwangyang. The Bao Flourish 56,832-dwt 2012-built fixed for a similar trip at $7,000 daily basis CJK.
Chun An was linked to two fixtures for steel to Southeast Asia, the Genco Cavalier 53,617-dwt 2007-built at aps Tianjin $5,800 daily and the ST George 58,729-dwt 2012-dwt basis north China delivery at $6,350 daily.
It was also mentioned a 56,000-dwt 2012-built open Singapore was fixed to China with coal via Indonesia at $6,700 daily. Another Supramax was put on subjects at $6,000 daily for the same basis Singapore delivery.

HANDYSIZE
Like the larger cousins, it was a quiet start to the week. Negative movement on the Atlantic routes remained a concern, brokers said.

The IVS Sentosa 32,000-dwt was understood to have been fixed on subjects but then failed basis delivery Santos for a trip to the Continent with some unnamed operator. Pacific Basin was linked to taking a Handy on subjects for a trip from east coast South America to the Far East in the mid $7,000s but no further details came to light. MUR was said to have taken the Interlink Levity 37,135-dwt open West Africa prompt was rumoured basis Conakry for ato the trip to the Black Sea but it remained if the rate was $4,000 or $4,500 daily. The Interlink Activity 2015-built 38,710-dwt open Baltic was fixed clean for a trip to Brazil on Friday but no further details came to light and the Thurgau 32,790-dwt 2011-built open on Continent was also fixed on Friday but again details remained under wraps.
