CAPESIZE
A positive end to week with firmer rates in almost all arenas of the market. The Atlantic market today appeared to be moving quite rapidly today but for now rates were slow to emerge. Transatlantic round voyage rates were improving rapidly, albeit in a still thin market, with talk that rates were now closer to $6,000 daily for BCI types for the round voyage. Thursday or possibly Wednesday SwissMarine booked the CIC Rolaco for a 15 September onwards cargo from Puerto Bolivar to Rotterdam at $5.00 and earlier today others were bidding tonnage similar levels.
K-Line was said to have fixed a cargo from Brazil to the Continent or Mediterranean on timecharter and a cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao what was said to equate to $10.10 on voyage basis. An RWE-controlled vessel was also rumoured booked to Trafigura for an end September cargo from Brazil to the east at $9.90 but it was not clear whether this was basis Sudeste or a Tubarao equivalent.
There were also a few more Pepel cargoes with CCL tonnage also now fixing a first half October cargo at $10.25.
There were fewer ballasters and this was helping those owners with tonnage in the north with most wanting a premium to east with the backhaul still at very low levels.
After holding around $4.60, a few more Newcastle cargoes added completion and charterers today conceded $4.80 with Rio Tinto paying this level to the Sanko-controlled Yuritamou for a 19 September onwards cargo from Dampier to Qingdao at this level (with 90,000 tonnes shinc load) and BHP Billiton reportedly took a Marmaras vessel from Port Hedland for 17-18 September at the same rate. There was talk the latter charterer fixed at $4.90, but little emerged.
Hyundai Glovis was linked with the Ping May 178,043-dwt 2010-built Pacific Bulk relet for a 6-8 September delivery Majishan for an Australian round at $8,500 daily. Earlier the 2015-built 179,258-dwt Alpha Freedom, which had been open 31 August CJK was now reported fixed, but details were not disclosed.

PANAMAX
Limited volume of fixtures reported but some areas were business. Brokers said several vessels have been 창?혱quietly창?혲 fixed for Black Sea cargoes and this market has been more active. There was a suggestion that a 74,000-tonner open in the eastern Mediterranean fixed a trip from the Black Sea to the east with the vessel aiming for $13,000 daily. There was limited inquiry in the US Gulf but most described the market as steady. Northwest Europe had been more active this week but today saw limited reports. South America fixing was still in evidence albeit at a slower pace and certainly waiting times in Brazil have been reduced.
Charterers were lowballing rates in the east today but owners were seeing more interest particularly going forward and few were prepared to fix today preferring to wait until next week.

ATLANTIC
Norvic covered a cargo from the Black Sea to the east and the 81,014-dwt 2015-built BTG Everest coming open in the eastern Mediterranean also fixed on this run but not with Norvic. The Astromar 87,144-dwt 2006-built, which passed Cape Passero 30 September, was rumoured fixed for a trip to the east, but details were not reported.
The 2011-built Post Panamax Charaklia Junior due Cape Passero 3 September was also said earlier on subjects for a trip to the east, but again a rate was not reported.
From the US Gulf, ADMI reportedly failed with the thirsty Master 81,588-dwt 2012-built for a 20 September delivery for a trip to the east at $8,500 daily plus a $220,000 bonus.
From South America, the Thessaloniki 2006-built 76,598-dwt due on the east coast 14 September was rumoured booked for the run to Southeast Asia at $7,200 daily plus a $220,000 bonus, but a charterer was not reported.

ASIA
A report that the 21-year old 71,252-dwt Hui Zhi, a Joint Fortune relet, fixed from Xiamen 8 September for a run from Indonesia to South Korea at a strong $5,600 daily with KLC caused some surprised with Kamsarmax earlier struggling to achieve this level.
The Megalohari 76,633-dwt 2004-built agreed a firm $6,500 daily for delivery Xiamen 8-10 September for a trip via West Australia to the east but with salt not iron ore. HMM took the ship which is due open Hirohata.
PWSL reportedly took the Ocean Emperor 74,002-dwt 1998-built for a trip from Richards Bay to India at $6,250 daily plus a $125,000 bonus. The ship is coming from Tuticorin.

ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
A slightly quiet end to the week with the Labour Day holidays on Monday and possibly maybe players pausing.

ATLANTIC
From the Continent, Thorco Bulk was linked to the Alexandros Theo 45,659-dwt 2000-built basis delivery passing Skaw for a trip via the Baltic redelivery Morocco at $8,000 daily. The African Sunbird 2009-built 55,688-dwt was rumoured fixed for direction Far East but it remained unclear if this was on voyage or timecharter basis.
The Spring Oasis, a 63,800-dwt 2014-built Dolphin type, was rumoured fixed to Norden for US Gulf/Caldera grains at $18,000 basis delivery Mississippi River 13-15 September. From Thursday, the Kaity L 50,457-dwt 2003-built was finally said to have fixed basis delivery Santos for a trip to Jebel Ali in the mid-high $10,000s plus $125,000 ballast bonus.

ASIA
The Lan Hua Hai 47,980-dwt 2000-dwt open Rizhao fixed in the low $6,000s for a trip to Vietnam. The Lyngholmen 56,548-dwt 2008-built open CJK failed on subjects for 3 to 5 months trading redelivery India-Japan at $7,000 daily.
For the NoPac round, brokers reported the Imabari 61,000-tonner Red Azalea failed on subjects at $7,550 daily basis Ningbo for redelivery CJK/Japan range with grain and the Mimi Selmer 55,636-dwt 2005-built open Changshu fixed at $7,750 daily for a trip via Alaska to the Far East.
Nickel ore rates remained steady towards the end of the week. A Huarong vessel was linked to a fixture via the Philippines to China at $7,700 daily basis Guangzhou delivery. The Sunny Horizon 56,686-dwt 2011-built open Jingtang and the Pacific Vision 56,425-dwt 2013-dwt open Lanqiao fixed clean for the same at $6,500 daily basis Jingtang and $7,000 daily basis Lanqiao delivery respectively.

HANDYSIZE
Another plus day for Asian Indices while the Atlantic had a slight drop. Brokers were not expecting much overall change for the first week of September.

Sources advised a 32,000-tonner was fixed on subjects at around $7,600 daily for delivery Santos for a trip to west coast South America. Another rumour centred around a 39,000-dwt vessel having perhaps fixed delivery east coast South America for a trip to north coast south America at about $7,500 daily. Little else was divulged.
