CAPESIZE
There was a touch more activity from Brazil with fewer ballasters but owners struggled to push rates up. The north Atlantic remained weak and struggled to break out of the current narrow trading range. In the east, it seemed owners lacked the will to resist but at least rates for now, were settling around $4.60 for West Australia/China cargoes. Surprisingly there were some improved timecharter rates reported.
There were rumours on Brazil with Hyundai Glovis reportedly taking a Pepel/China cargo earlier this week at $9.80, but sources said without backup tonnage. There were said to be bidding over $10.00 for the business but an operator was said to have fixed for a Pepel cargo and working another.
Polaris was linked with the KSL Seoul 180,000-dwt 2015-built for a Tubarao/Qingdao for 25 September onwards at $9.90.
The Delos 175,157-dwt 2012-built fixed on subjects from Brazil with her last position off South Africa 4-5 days ago.
Further north Cargill fixed a 14-20 September cargo from Puerto Bolivar to Turkey on private terms, but not with an EdF vessel as some suggested. There had been talk the rate was around $4.80-85.
NYK was said to be close to fixing the 173,800-dwt 2006-built H S C for a Drummond/Tarragona cargo at $4.70.
MOL was said to have fixed a Brazil/transatlantic cargo on an Atlantic vessel, but details were not reported.
In the east, Rio Tinto booked two cargoes for 17 September onwards one a WISCO vessel and another undisclosed at least at a steady $4.60.
The 185,805-dwt 2006-built Cape Dover open 4-7 September Pohang fixed for a Newcastle round with NYK at $8,500 daily and not $9,000 daily as earlier reported.
Jiangsu Steamship took the SwissMarine relet Tiger Jiangsu for 6-7 September delivery Nagoya for an Australia round at $8,000 daily. The 17-year old Anangel Dynasty 171,101-dwt 3-4 September CJK fixed for an Australia round at $7,000 daily with a South Korean charterer.
The China Harmony 2016-built newbuilding Newcastlemax, a Uniper relet and ex-yard, has fixed, but details remained private.
Anglo American reportedly took two ships from Saldanha Bay to Qingdao taking the SwissMarine relet C. Vision and the Theodoros P for 17 September onwards at $7.60.


PANAMAX
Another sluggish day with rates continuing to drift. In the Atlantic, charterers were able to secure tonnage on voyage basis particularly for round trips at low numbers.
In the east, rates continued to slide as spot ships came under pressure but some noted more interest for second half September.
The 2002-built 75,735-dwt Vivian failed on charterparty details for 7-11 September delivery Paradip for 4 to 7 months trading at $6,000 daily 창?혫 a charterer was not reported.

ATLANTIC
Klaveness has the Arouzu 82,250-dwt 2012-built, an RWE relet, on subjects for a trip from Murmansk to Turkey, but a rate was not reported.
The Icarus 75,200-dwt 2012-built open Immingham spot was earlier said on subjects for a Baltic round, but a rate was not reported. The Mangan Trader III 84,062-dwt 2013-built, which sailed Ghent 27 August has gone in-house.
From the US Gulf, ADMI was said to have taken the thirsty Master 81,588-dwt 2012-built for a 20 September delivery for a trip to the east at $8,500 daily plus a $220,000 bonus but sources said this rate would equate to $10,000 daily on the rate.
There was talk that Huaya booked a Post-Panamax in the eastern Mediterranean to move a bauxite cargo from Bar, Montenegro to the east at $11,500 daily.
Mixed rates from South America with talk that Cargill booked the Energy G 79,387-dwt 2010-built due east coast South America 11 September for a trip to Singapore-Japan at a low $7,000 daily plus a $180,000 bonus.
Earlier Transgrain paid the Nicosia Pegasus 81,512-dwt 2012-built $8,000 daily plus a $300,000 bonus for 13-16 September delivery east coast South America to the east with an option of the PG including Iran at $7,750 daily plus a $275,000 bonus.
The Atenti 87,328-dwt 2014-built was linked with CJ International for a trip from east coast South America to the east, but a rate was not reported.

ASIA
Here rates remained weak generally with Cargill booking an LME open in Hong Kong for an Indonesian round at $4,250 daily. The Cerafina 2005-built 74,759-dwt spot Taichung went to Klaveness for a trip via east coast Australia to India at $4,600 daily.
Kashun booked the Rosco Sandalwood 76,801-dwt 2004-built from Hong Kong 4-5 September for a trip via Indonesia to China at under $5,000 daily.
There was talk that the Megalohari 76,663-dwt 2004-built was rumoured booked for delivery passing Xiamen for a trip via West Australia to South Korea at $6,500 daily, but a charterer as not reported.
K-Line allegedly has the Cecilia B 82,154-dwt 2012-built spot Cai Lan on subjects for a trip via Villaneuva to Japan at $5,750 daily.
The 2012-built 92,418-dwt Hakuyo open 5 September Hitachinaka was said on subjects with EdF Trading for a trip via Newcastle to Japan, but a rate was not reported.
The Giovanni Batista B 75,2560dwt 1999-built open Xinsha prompt fixed on subjects for a round voyage on private terms. The Angelic Peace 76,764-dwt 2001-built has also gone on subjects.
The Xing Hong 2013-built 81,200-dwt open Fangcheng 5-9 September failed with PCL for a trip via Indonesia to India at $5,850 daily with the ship now said on subjects with another charterer for an Indonesia to India at $5,500 daily. The Marilena D창?혲Amato was also said on subjects.


SUPRAMAX
A steady day across both basins brokers reported, with some slightly stronger rates being seen in the Asia today.

ATLANTIC
Brokers suggested that MUR fixed an Ultramax for a trip basis delivery South West Pass redelivery west coast South America at $17,000 daily. A Tess 58,000-dwt was rumoured to have been fixed basis delivery US Gulf for a trip redelivery east Mediterranean with petcoke at $12,750 daily. A 63,000 Ultra was also heard to have fixed with Western Bulk for a trip from the US Gulf to Morocco with grains some suggested the rate was $12,000 daily, but later reports suggested the rate was closer to $13,500 but the actual rate remained unconfirmed. A 50,000-dwt was said put on subjects by Pacific Bulk basis delivery Santos trip redelivery Jebel Ali with further details not diisclosed. A Tess 58 was understood to have been put on subjects for a trip basis passing Skaw via the Baltic redelivery on the Continent in the mid $9,000s.s.

ASIA
The market remained active, brokers said. Visa Bulk from India was linked to the Red Fin 56,780-dwt 2011-built open Singapore which fixed clean at $8,200 daily for a trip via Indonesia redelivery China, which brokers suggested was high. It was also mentioned a 56,000-dwt 2013-built fixed $7,200 daily earlier in the week and a 51,000-dwt 2013-built was on subjects at $6,000 daily last night both delivery Singapore for a coal trip to CJK.
The Dalmatia G 57,238-dwt 2010-built open CJK failed for 3 to 5 months trading at $7,000 daily. Other period fixtures include the Tiger Zhejiang 63,488-dwt 2015-built fixed $7,700 daily with Ningbo delivery at end of the month for a 6 to 8 months duration.
The Dubai Sun 61,344-dwt 2010-built open Taichung failed on subjects at $6,750 daily for a trip loading cement via north China to Madagascar/Mauritius range. It was also rumoured that a 63,000 tonner fixed $9,000 daily basis Singapore for a trip via Australia to China and the Baoji 56,734-dwt 2013-built was put on subjects at $6,000 daily basis Yantai for a nickel ore trip via Philippines to China.

HANDY
A very quiet day with no real information gathered. The BHSI today showed a small downward tendency for all Atlantic routes.
The Asian market had a very small increase with brokers suggesting possibly a slow few days ahead.
