Capesize
There was more activity today with a positive move on all the published route rates. News emerged of the Cyclades (170,050 built 2004) fixing yesterday with Rio Tinto for Dampier to Qingdao basis 8/10 September at $4.45.
On the same route there was talk of 2 other fixtures also at $4.45 with BHP Billiton fixing a vessel for 9 September onwards and Cargill fixing the Mount Dampier (181,469 built 2011) for 6 September onwards.
Classic Maritime were said to have fixed tonnage for 6 September onwards at $4.80 but this is basis max port costs of $299,000. Today's C5 published at $4.505.
GNS fixed the Big Fish (177,662 built 2004) delivery Zhangjiang end August for a west Australian roundvoyage at $7,300 daily and Oldendorff fixed the Pioneer (171,681 built 2004) delivery Krishnapatnam end August for a trip via Brazil to China at $9,000 daily. Today's C14 route (which is basis delivery Qingdao) published at $7,359 an increase of $386/day from yesterday.
There were rumours that $9.35 was fixed for Tubarao to Qingdao for mid September dates some suggesting it might have been Pacific Bulk tonnage to Cargill and further talk of a higher fixture around $9.50, but possibly loading from CSN, however nothing has been substantiated. Today the C3 route published up almost 20 cents at $9.30.
In the Atlantic the Anangel Brilliance (179,179 built 2016) open prompt in the Mediterranean was said to be on subjects with SwissMarine for a trans Atlantic roundvoyage at $6,750 daily if redelivery Passero or $5,750 basis Gibraltar. Brokers have pointed out her specs are some margin better than the benchmark Capesize vessel, possibly by $1,600-$1,800.
News emerged of Phaethon fixing the Anangel Explorer (171,926 built 2007) delivery Gibraltar 30 August for a trip via Bolivar to Turkey with redelivery Passero at $5,500 daily, but this was fixed earlier in the week.


Panamax
Within the Atlantic the front haul business was noticeably a shade softer. East coast south America trans atlantic was also slightly off but brokers said US Gulf transatlantic rates seemed steady. In the Pacific there was a report that South East Asia was active and NoPac needed more demand to keep rates from coming off. Another day with no discussions about period cover being taken.

Rumours about the Nicosia Pegasus 82,000-dwt built 2012 covering delivery east coast South America at $7,500 daily plus $250,000 ballast bonus for the leg to Singapore-Japan could not be confirmed and was later suggested the ship might still be available. The Key Mission 82,000-dwt built 2013 giving ETA east coast South America 14th September was apparently on subjects at $7,600 daily plus $260,000 ballast bonus to Omegra. The Double Fantasy 95,000 tonner was linked to fixing delivery Gijon spot but no further details revealed. Brokers reported the Star Renee 2006 built 82,594-dwt fixed delivery Montoir trip via US Gulf redelivery Singapore-횂혫Japan at $10,500 daily.

The Olympic Galaxy 2009 built 81,383-dwt was said taken for a NoPac round to Chinese at $6,000 daily. The Startrader 2001 built 76,600-dwt fixed delivery Indonesia prompt for a trip redelivery Korea at $6,000 daily plus $100,000 ballast bonus. Omegra was linked to have taken another vessel for NoPac but no further details revealed. The Bregaglia 87,000 tonner covered delivery Yantai trip via NoPac to Bin Qasim with grains at $7,000 daily to Aquavita. The 74,000-dwt Evanthia built 2001 concluded a trip delivery Xiaocuo for trip with coal via Indonesia to South China at $5,000 daily. The Ocean Lucky 93,199-dwt was taken delivery Tianjin trip via east coast Australia to India at $6,200 daily.


Supramax
It has not been a busy day in the Atlantic again today. Brokers mentioning an Ultramax built 2014 was still on subjects at mid $15,000 aps US Gulf trip to South East Asia with about 70 to 75 days duration. Rumours about a Supramax going from US Gulf to India at $13,500 daily could not be clarified. A scrap cargo was linked to a trip from Continent to Portugal at $9,000 level but further details not being leaked. The Hakata Queen 61,000 tonner built 2016 was reported fixed delivery Odense for a trip via Ventspils to US Gulf at $6,000 daily,

Plenty of fixtures have been reported in the Pacific. Rates for coal stems ex Indonesia were supporting the indices strengthening further in the Far East. Sources suggested Tongli had taken 3 ships all open Singapore for trips via Indonesia to China, an Ultramax and a Dolphin 57 both at mid $8,000s, and the AP Astarea 57,300-dwt 2012-built at $7,800 daily. It was also mentioned Norden fixed a 58,000-dwt at $8,250 daily with delivery Singapore for the same route. Meanwhile, Crimson Queen 58,140-dwt 2014-built open Singapore and the Vita Harmony 58,129-dwt 2014-built open Xiamen went for India direction at $8,500 daily and $8,000 daily respectively.
Activities for other routes include the Van Star 61,508-dwt 2011-dwt open Singapore fixed at low $8,000 for an Australia round voyage and the V Green Heron 51,557-dwt 2002-built open Fangcheng fixed at mid-high $6,000 with a cargo of sand back to Singapore. Sources suggested a 61,000 tonner was covered on subjects delivery Kohsichang trip via Australia to Philippines at $7,500 daily.


Handy

The Asian market continues its drive forward with brokers feeling the weather and port delays are keeping ships occupied and creating a lack of availability in the short term. Atlantic is again positive from the Continent but east coast South America and US Gulf remain in the doldrums.

The Corsair 35,062-dwt covered delivery Canakkale trip via Black Sea and Red Sea with redelivery Pot Said at $8,000 daily. The Assimina II a 30,541-dwt covered with Cargill for delivery Recalada trip north coast South America at $5,500 daily.
Sources reported the Vijitra Naree 28,646-dwt built 1997 secured a fixture delivery Abidjan trip to India at $8,500 daily. A 30,000 tonner was apparently fixed on subjects for delivery US Gulf trip Brazil but details remained private until the deal was signed off.
A 28,000-dwt vessel was alleged fixed basis delivery Vietnam for an Australian round voyage at about $6,000 daily but details remained sketchy. Another 28 was said taken for a NoPac round at a level just under $6,000 with final details expected to be confirmed later.
In the Persian Gulf a 33,000 tonner was linked to a trip to China at $3,000 daily.
