Capesize

The firmer rates for west Australia to China of $4.80 from yesterday appear to have been short lived as there was talk of lower levels being bid and offered.
By close of business the rumour was that Rio Tinto had fixed a vessel at around the $4.50 level for 7/10 September, possibly on a direct basis, but no vessel name has been mentioned. The same charterers might have fixed a second vessel at a rate under $4.50, with some suggesting it was the Maria D (179,232 built 2016) and possibly at $4.40.
Navig8's Beaufiks (180,310 built 2004) which was open prompt in the Sunda Straits is said to have fixed a cargo to the Atlantic, however nothing further has been reported.
BTG were said to have fixed a vessel for their CSN to Qingdao cargo, with talk of the Cape Harmony (178,373 built 2012) at $9.40 level, however sources suggest they did not fix anything and the vessel remains open in the Gibraltar area.
Hyundai Glovis were rumoured to have fixed RWE tonnage, possibly the Mehmed Fatih (180,000 built 2015) for Tubarao to Qingdao basis 5/14 September at $9.25.
SwissMarine were said to have taken another CCL vessel for Bolivar to Rotterdam for around mid September dates at $4.65.
K-line were said to have covered their Bolivar to Zonguldak cargo for 4/13 September at $5.20, but no vessel was reported.


Panamax
Still remaining fairly evenly balanced brokers suggested today with the Atlantic seemingly the quieter of the two basins.

Damico was rumoured to have covered their Murmansk round but no further details came to light. Norden was rumoured to have paid the Italic G 93,234-dwt 2009 dwt $7,000 for their Murmansk to Continent. Brokers suggested that east coast South America remained a bit quiet however an 87,000-dwt 2015-built was rumoured to have fixed a bauxite lift from Fazendinha further details remained patchy.
The SITC Huangshan 76155-dwt 2012-built fixed basis delivery ECSA 1-10 September for a front haul at $7,600 daily + $260,000 ballast bonus.
Brokers suggested that the east Mediterranean seemed finely balanced with a tightening of prompt tonnage.

The Saronic Champion 93,115-dwt 2001-built open Far east was said to be on subjects but no more details came to light . NYK was understood to have fixed a Post-panamax for Gladstone to Japan with 10 September dates, brokers thinking it might have been the CMB Pomerol 95,000-dwt 201-built open Gwangyang 24 August.
A bit of activity on Australia coal business today, it was heard that SAIL fixed 75000/5 coal from Darymple Bay to east coast India with mid September dates at $9.30.
VSP was also understood to have covered 75,000/10 coal Haypoint to India but further details remained under wraps.
Cargill was rumoured to have relet the Ikan Kedewas 88,279-dwt 2006-built for a Pacific round. The Ocean Phoenix I 82471-dwt 2007-built was reported fixed basis delivery Kohsichang mid August for a trip via WC Australia redelivery Singapore-Japan at $7,250 daily.

Supramax
A busy day and all indices on the increase. The US Gulf and Black Sea theatres both seem to have some momentum at the moment. East coast South America also seems to have picked up slightly. Asia had a wealth of activity with most rates being fixed higher than last done. A new building Oshima 62,000-dwt was claimed to have fixed delivery ex Yard Oshima end August for 8-12 months at $7,250 daily.

Apparently a 53,000-dwt Eagle vessel open USGulf 20th August was covered for a petcoke cargo to Greece at $12,000 daily. Brokers advised the JS Tamise 2013 built 63,500-dwt fixed $13,000 daily for wood pellets to Continent with a USEC delivery poinit. The Kmarin Oslo 2015 built 63,098-dwt covered delivery Canakkale trip Singapore-Japan at $13,500 daily. A short trip was concluded on a 56,000 tonner open in Bourgas via Black Sea to Singapore-Japan with the intention India at $13,750 per day. The DL Pansy 2013 built 57,835-dwt achieved $12,200 daily delivery Canakkale with grains via Black Sea to Far East. The Cardinal 2004 55,408-dwt was finally confirmed by brokers as fixed delivery Santos trip to Malaysia at $8,600 daily plus $90,000 ballast bonus.

A NoPac round voyage was reported fixed for a 58,000 tonner at $7,150 daily and another 58,000-dwt covered a trip to Persian Gulf at $7,000 daily both basis CJK delivery. Talk about a Supra taking low $7,000s for a trip via NoPac to India could not be clarified. The Pan Pride 2010 57,000-dwt open Singapore failed at $7,500 for nickel ore via Philippines to China. More Nickel ore, this time with the Peaceful Seas 63,500-dwt delivery Singapore at $8,500 daily and the Huayang Lily 63,700-dwt built 2016 with a Lanshan delivery on subjects at $7,250 per day. Steels was the cargo for both the Conti Peridot 57,001-dwt and the V Fulmar 52,307-dwt, the first basis trip via Indonesia to China at about $7,000-7,250 levels and the later delivery CJK redelivery Thailand at $7,250 daily. The Baltic Light 2016 63,263-dwt open Kohsichang concluded a trip to Singapore with sands at about $7,000 daily. Sources revealed the E.R. Bristol 2011 built 55,783-dwt open Gresik was fixed via Australia to China at $8,750 daily. A 53,000 tonner covered on subjects delivery Singapore 22nd August fpr a trip via Indonesia redelivery China at $7,500 daily.

Handy
Brokers suggesting a slight continued improvement for the Continent with talk of a lack of availability for handysizes at the moment. East coast South America remained static with possible downwards tendencies. The US Gulf market seems to be dropping but some brokers are feeling this might improve later but not for spot. Talk a 34,000-dwt vessel was fixed to the Continent at $6,500 was not confirmed. Asia improved marginally but as usual actual reported fixtures very hard to come by.

Cargill covered a Recalada to Libya stem at $6,000 daily on the Lazeez 32,367-dwt built 2000. There are rumours that MUR have secured a handy/handymax on subjects for delivery Black Sea trip to Morocco but no further details leaked.
A 34,000 tonner was alleged fixed delivery spot in Singapore at something in the high $5,000s for a short trip to Thailand.
