CAPESIZE
The market appeared to be taking a breather and although some suggested little change in the physical supply/demand balance paper was sold off and sentiment shifted but showed a bounce as the market closed out. Rates slipped from West Australia to China but to some extent offset by improved drafts. Generally, the market early on was dominated by rumour with little fresh confirmed.
Period talk included the 187,000-dwt 2014-built Cape America fixing to Rio Tinto for prompt delivery north China for two years trading at $17,000 daily. Sources said the ship is very well described particularly for Dampier draft and was probably worth $2,500 daily more than the BCI type.

ASIA
Cosco fixed a 20-23 March 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from West Australia to Qingdao at $6.35 and Rio Tinto early on was said to be trying to fix under this level. It emerged that Panocean booked the Anangel Fortune 175,500-dwt 2005-built from CJK 12-14 March for a West Australian round at a good $14,000 daily but the business was concluded Tuesday.
The 2009-built 169,021-dwt Genco Maximus open 7 March north China fixed on private terms.
Sources said the New Orleans 180,000-dwt 2015-built open Xiamen was linked with Libra for a cargo from Indonesia to Bedi at $6.10. Sources said Oldendorff booked the New Taizhou 175,885-dwt 2010-built was linked with Anglo American for a Saldanha Bay/Qingdao run at $11.25 - up a dollar if correct.

ATLANTIC
Sources said today that Cargill fixed the Taurus 179,607-dwt 2011-built for a Tubarao/Qingdao cargo at close to $14.00 and not CSN at $14.85- $15.00. It emerged that Winning took the Seafarer, the Bilgent relet, for a 23-27 March 170,000-tonne 10% bauxite cargo from Guinea to Yantai at $14.10 while SwissMarine's True Deam fixed a mid-March 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Pepel to Qingdao at $14.75.
Once again the Anangel Guardian 179,701-dwt 2010-built was linked with Classic Maritime for a trip to the east at $23,000 daily.,






PANAMAX
There were still some strong rates emerging but a slower market today with some uncertainty. South America continued to drive the market but with tonnage top heavy in the Atlantic market and less transatlantic business more shipse headed south to take advantage of the strong rates there.
In the east, it now appeared that rates were possibly a touch 'toppy'. An average type fixed from South Korea for a NoPac round at $10,500 daily a strong rate but possibly this could prove the top for its description.
There was some early enthusiasm with an unsubstantiated report circulating that a 2006-built LME open Singapore fixed for a year at $12,000 daily. United was reported to have taken the Cargill relet Talimen for 6 to 8 months retroactive Haldia but a rate was not reported.

ATLANTIC
The 2007-built 92,481-dwt Faneromeni open Rotterdam fixed front haul but details were not reported. It emerged that Norden took the 2015-built 78,020-dwt from Gibraltar 10-14 March for a trip via the Amazon to the Continent at $10,750 daily. Sources said the Bulk Poland 82,150-dwt 2014-built fixed from Brazil to Skaw-Cape Passero at $16,500 daily, but a charterer was not reported.
Most of the ships fixed from South America today to the east have largely been fixed on a dop basis from the Indian Ocean area or the east. The Avax 76,399-dwt 2006-built went at $12,000 daily from Lumut for an east coast South American round with Panocean. Raffles took the Pacific Bulk relet KM Keelung a 2010-built Kamsarmax from Port Keland 20-22 March for a the round at $11,500 daily. D'Amico allegedly fixed the Crystal Star 82,700-dwt 2014-built from Gangavaram on this run at $13,250 daily.
Sources said that the 75,933-dwt 2000-built Tina, a Phaethon relet, fixed to Bunge for a 1-10 April cargo from Brazil to China at $29.50.

ASIA
Cargill paid the Atlantic Hero 75,804-dwt 2005-built $10,500 daily for prompt delivery Ulsan for a NoPac round at $10,500 daily which could be the current peak of the market for this size, sources said. Monday Louis Dreyfus booked the Lady I 75,356-dwt 2007-built from Chiba at $10,000 sdialy. The Privocean 2013-built 81,434-dwt open Qingdao 23 March was rumoured today booked for a round voyage in the low $11,000s daily. The Star Nina 82,224-dwt 2006-built fixed Tuesday from Tomakomai 11-14 March for a NoPac round at $11,750 daily. Brokers suggested there has already been a substantial amount of April business booked.
The 79,412-dwt 2011-built Skiathos open 17-22 March Kaohsiung fixed for Indonesia business while PCL took a ship open in Taiwan for a trip from Indonesia to India in the low $11,000s daily.
An 82,000-tonner open South Korea fixed for a fertilizer cargo from NoPac to India in the low-mid $11,000s daily.
Grand Fortune booked a Post-Panamax open north China to move a 1-10 April cargo from Dalrymple Bay to China and some claimed the rate was around $10,000 daily.
World Wide Bulk was linked with an LME open Japan fixed on subjects from east coast Australia to Malaysia at a rate in the high $10,000s daily.


ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
Brokers reported some improved numbers achieved in the Asian market. From the Atlantic, a mixed bag, the US Gulf was quieter brokers reported, whilst better numbers came to light from east coast South America. On the period front, a 53,000-dwt 2005-built open in mid-China was fixed at a rate in the mid $8,000s, a 56,000-dwt 2012-built was fixed on subjects for about 5 to 7 months trading at $9,400 daily delivery west coast India and another similar-sized Supramax open in UAE was booked for the same period at mid $9,000s.

ATLANTIC
The Walsall 58,018-dwt 2010-built was rumoured fixed with EMR basis delivery La Coruna trip via Continent redelivery east Mediterranean at $10,500 daily. A 55,000-dwt was linked to Louis Dreyfus for grains from the Black Sea to South Africa close to the mid $20.00s. A 52,000-dwt was on subjects for a trip delivery east coast South America redelivery Singapore-Japan at $12,500 plus $275,000 ballast bonus. The Equinox Eagle 61,208-dwt 2015-built open east coast South America was rumoured on subjects again for a front haul redelivery south-east Asia at $13,250 plus $335,000 ballast bonus.

ASIA
The Sandpiper Bulker 57,809-dwt 2011-built failed on a trip with tapioca chips to China at $11,000 daily, and a 53,000-dwt 2008-built was put on subjects at $12,000 daily south-east Asia both with Kohsichang delivery.
The Qing Yun Shan 63,441-dwt 2016-built was failed on subjects for a trip via Australia back to the Far East at $10,500 daily with delivery CJK. A 56,000-dwt 2012-built open CJK was fixed on subjects for a trip via CIS to China at $7,600 daily but the EM Coral 58,018-dwt 2010-built delivery South Korea was failed for the same at $8,000 daily.
The Bao Flourish 56,591-dwt 2011-built failed on short period trading at mid-high $8,000s with CJK delivery and now fixed for a quick run via north China to Persian Gulf-west India range at $6,600 daily.






HANDYSIZE
Firmer levels remained across the board brokers suggested.

ATLANTIC
The Four Emerald 34,000-dwt 2012-built was reported on subjects for a scrap run from Continent to the east Mediterranean at close to $9,000 daily. The Nordic Malmoe 2012-built 34,734-dwt was rumoured fixed booked for a scrap cargo from Montoir to Turkey at around $10,000 to $11,000 daily. A 34,000-dwt was reported fixed basis delivery Bremen trip to Italy with steels at $10,000 daily. The Nordic Orinoco 38,040-dwt 2015-built reportedly fixed on subjects for a trip with alumina from Vila di Conde trip to Norway at above $10,000 daily but the actual rate remained undisclosed. The Adelina 34,032-dwt 2012-built was linked to a trip from Maceio to Mediterranean-Black Sea but no further details came to light.

ASIA
Brokers reported that a 28,000-dwt open Singapore was fixed basis 2 laden legs at $7,500 daily but no further details came to light. A 37,000-dwt open east coast India was on subjects for a trip via west coast India to Vietnam.
