CAPESIZE
Fresh activity in the Atlantic and east today with rates generally firmer. Atlantic was thin but at improved rates both transatlantic and from Brazil to the east.
In the east, rates from West Australia to China continued to climb with the miners all in the market today.
Period activity remained in evident with paper still lending support. Pacific Bulk was linked with the Ekaterini 2012-built 173,555-dwt (a Bohai type) for a year retroactive Kemen with some suggesting $11,200 daily. The Heroic 182,060-dwt 2010-built fixed a year in direct continuation to Classic Maritime but a rate was not disclosed but some suggested the rate was in the low to mid $11,000s daily.
The 205,000-dwt 2011-built Q Gayle open Tianjin mid-March went to SwissMarine for a year at 117% of the BCI 5-timecharter average but this was reported as fixed well over a week ago. Similarly, the Nightlife 179,455-dwt 2015-built was reported to Koch Shipping for a year but sources said this was concluded two weeks ago for 5 to 7 months trading and BCI index linked. Rio Tinto reported took the El Grasso 181,365-dwt 2012 Imabari built went in direct continuation with Rio Tinto for a year at $13,000 daily. The Giant Ace 179,147-dwt 2009-built was also rumoured booked for a year but little else emerged.

ATLANTIC
A CCL ship was reportedly booked for a 20-25 March cargo from Brazil to China at $11.25. Earlier, Oldendorff fixed the 2012-built Golden Crown for a mid-March cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao while earlier Cargill fixed the Cape Miron 2009-built for a February position at $10.25.
K-Line was linked with the 182,741-dwt 2011-built Cape Amanda for an 8 March cancelling 160,000-tonne 10% from Puerto Bolivar in the low-mid $6.00s but some said the cargo was done basis C7 route. Earlier Cargill took CCL tonnage for a 3-13 March cargo on this run at $6.10.

ASIA
BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and FMG were all active today with some suggesting that $5.45 was done but it was not clear who or if fixed this.
BHP Billiton booked tonnage at $5.30 for early March from Port Hedland but a name was not disclosed. The charterer was also linked with the Navios Bonheur 179,144-dwt 2010-built basis 7 March at $5.30 or possibly a few cents more. FMG took the 2010-built Cape Spencer at $5.30 today and Monday the London Spirit 2007-built for a 190,000-tonne 10% cargo from Port Hedland to Qingdao at $5.15. Rio Tinto earlier took the 2011-built Great Song and the 2006-built H S C both for early March from Dampier to Qingdao at $5.25 and $5.20 respectively.
Monday CJ Logistics covered a 6-10 March cargo from Port Hedland to Qingdao but a rate was not disclosed.
Jiangsu Steamship booked the 2010-built 181,196-dwt Mount Hedland from Zhoushan 25-26 February for an Australian round at $8,000 daily. The Koch Shipping relet Lowlands Erica 176,862-dwt 2007-built was fixed for a cargo from South Africa to India, but a rate was not reported.


PANAMAX
The north Atlantic transatlantic market remained 'severely overtonnaged' with sources suggesting that owners were undercutting last done. There has been fixing but all at lower rates. Front haul trading was steady but there remained very little cargo out of the Black Sea. South America rates too were steadier with good Kamsarmaxes still fixing around the mid $9,000s daily plus the mid $400,000s.
In the east, again several ships were reported ships and some rates were stronger but there were remained a fair volume of ships coming open. Period trading appeared reasonably well supported but most remained cautious. Cargill was reported on subjects earlier with the 80,638-dwt 2010-built KM Sydney open Linkou for a short period in the low $9,000s daily while the 2012-built Darya Ma 81,874-dwt open China end March-early April delivery for 5 to 7 months at $8,750 daily, but the charterer was not reported.

ATLANTIC
Comerge took the Yangtze Xin Hua 2012-built 81,678-dwt fropm Rotterdam 9-15 March for a trip via Santarem to China at $11,500 daily. Sources said the 81,652-dwt Blumenau open Immingham prompt was reportedly on subjects for front haul business, but details were not disclosed.
The Ultra Leopard 81,600-dwt 2016-built open Immingham 24 February fixed for a trip from the Continent via the Red Sea with redelivery Cape Passero at $8,800 daily. Louis Dreyfus took the ship.
From South America, Transgrain took a LME/Kamsarmax from Paranagua 1-7 March for a trip to the east at a rumoured $9,250 daily plus a $425,000 bonus. The Bellemar, a 2007-built Kamsarmax, was rumoured booked on this run, but details were not disclosed.
The Thalassini 82,977-dwt 2005-built eta 10 March was said on subjects at $9,500 daily plus a $450,000 bonus on this run. A charterer was not reported. Sources said the Densa Pelican 2012-built Kamsarmax fixed to Windrose on voyage basis for a 1-10 March cargo from Brazil to China at $25.25. The Ligari 2004-built 75,000-tonner went for a 20-28 February delivery at $9,250 daily and a $425,000 ballast bonus but again the charterer was not disclosed. The
Sinoriches paid the Fiji 81,285-dwt 2013-built $9,500 daily plus a $440,000 bonus for a 1-10 March cargo from east coast South America. Sources said the 75,200-dwt 2011-built Brahms eta 25 February was linked with Cargill on this run at $8,750 daily plus a $375,000 bonus. The 2012-built 82,454-dwt Ikan Bawal eta 6-8 March was also reported on subjects from east coast South America while the 1999-built Genco Beauty 73,900-dwt which sailed 3 February Singapore went on subjects and had been asking $7,000 daily retroactive. The 75,106-dwt 2001-built Danae coming from New Mangalore was said on subjects for a trip but details were not clear.

ASIA
K-Line reportedly took the 2004-built 76,629-dwt Maribella for a 2-11 March cargo from the US west coast to on subjects but a rate was not reported. The ship was said open in Inchon.
The 80,013-dwt 2012-built Guan Hai 228 open spot South Korea fixed for a trip via east coast Australia to east coast India at $7,250 daily to an undisclosed charterer. BHP Billiton booked an early March cargo on voyage basis from east coast Australia to China at $8.80. Tongli booked the 1997-built 69,091-dwt Yue Dian 81 from open China for a trip via South Kalimantan to China.


ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
The Asia market had the edge over the Atlantic now with more activity emerging from there. Period activity was under the radar but the Tiger Beijing 2014-built 63493-dwt was reported fixed and failed basis delivery CJK for about 4 to 7 months trading redelivery worldwide at $8,800 daily with Oldendorff.

ATLANTIC
A few more reports today from east coast South America but very little came to light about from other areas. Brokers did comment that it was still evenly balanced in the US Gulf. A 57,000-dwt 2016-built was rumoured on subjects for a trip wwr Upriver trip redelivery Southeast Asia at $11,500 plus $150,000. The Andros Island 63,008-dwt 2016-built was reported fixed with Cargill basis delivery Santos trip redelivery India at $12,000 daily plus $200,000 ballast bonus.

ASIA
The Konkar Theodoros 60,897-dwt 2015 -built was rumoured to have gone to Norden at $10,000 daily basis Singapore run to the Philippines. The S-Bravery 53,553-dwt 2002-built delivery in Singapore was fixed via south Vietnam to Thailand range instead of east coast India at $9,500 daily. A 63,000-dwt 2017-built open Hong Kong was put on subjects at $9,000 daily for a trip via Indonesia to India.
A 58,000-dwt 2006-built with Fujairah delivery was booked to China at a rate in the low $8,000 daily. Novic Shipping was linked to the Suse 56,925-dwt 2011-built delivery in Mesaieed for a trip with limestone via Mina Saqr to west coast India at low $7,000 daily. The Navigation OL 2015 60,218-dwt open in South Africa was fixed to Pakistan but the details remained unclear.


HANDYSIZE
There was continued improvement on all routes today and talk of limited availability. Sentiment was growing for now.

Only a few snippets of information surfaced today. The Eibe Oldendorff 2015 built 38,330-dwt fixing delivery Kosichang for a trip via Australia to Singapore-Japan at $7,500 daily and a 38,000 tonner was allegedly fixed and failed for a NoPac round voyage delivery Japan at $8,500 daily. There was talk a 34,000-dwt was taken delivery North China for a trip to North Coast South America at $2,700 for the first 65 days and $6,600 daily for the balance.
