CAPESIZE
A more positive feel in the market today brokers reported.
HMM won the Kepco tender for 130,000 coal from Newcastle to Qingdao at $5.95. There was a rumour that a Hay Point to Qingdao run was fixed at $5.25 but nothing further was heard.
The Ocean Duke (180,361-dwt 2010-built) was fixed for west Australia to Qingdao basis 16-28 feb at $4.50 with Cargill. A Classic TBN was reported fixed for 150,000 10% iron ore Goa to north China at $4.95 with Formento.
In the Atlantic the premium that was being paid for February seems to have carried over into March as K-line fixed the Noble vessel Aquavision (180,353-dwt 2011-built) for Tubarao/China at $10.90 for 9/13 March.
Two SwissMarine controlled vessels had been fixed for February dates, Cargill fixed the Tiger Shandong (180,911-dwt 2011-built) at $10.75 and Oldendorff took the Seamate (177,773-dwt 2010-built) also for Tubarao to Qingdao at $10.75.
Tonkolili covered their ore cargo from Pepel to Qingdao basis 21-30 March at $10.20 on Cosco tonnage.
There was also a rumour that Cargill might have fixed a newcastlemax possibly the Yasa Dream (207,805 b-dwt 2008-built) for Tubarao to China basis eta end February at around the $11.00 level, despite her larger dwt.
Panocean were said to have fixed Caravel tonnage for 4 cargoes (1 per quarter) Tubarao to China over 2017 at $12.00 level.
Cargill might have taken tonnage for Bolivar to Rotterdam basis second half February load at $5.70.
On the period front the Aliki (2005-built 180,235-dwt) was fixed basis delivery Tobata mid February for 13-15 months trading redelivery worldwide at approximately $10,100 daily and the Anangel Merchant (179,719-dwt 2010-built) was said to have fixed for 11-14 months in the mid $12,000s but the Charterers remained undisclosed.


PANAMAX
It is still a story of two halves with the Pacific routes gaining whilst the Atlantic routes remained in negative territory. Period activity gained momentum today. Ultrabulk was rumoured to have taken the VSC Poseidon 74,957-dwt 2013-built open North China on subjects for short period. Brokers heard that the Bulk Monaco 2008 built 76,596-dwt was fixed basis delivery Singapore for 4-7 months in the low $9,000s but no further details came to light. The Eleni 2008-built 86,949-dwt was reported fixed basis delivery retro sailing Singapore 4th February for 5-7 months worldwide trading at $9,750 daily.

ATLANTIC
Omegra was rumoured to have fixed a post-panamax on subjects for US Gulf to the Far East but nothing further was known. Dreyfus took a vessel, rumoured to be theThessaloniki 76,598-dwt 2006-built, on time charter to cover their Gydnia to Red Sea cargo, but no further details came to light. Cofoco Agri covered 60,000/10 coal from Murmansk to Jorf Lasfar 18,000/30,000 shinc bends at $7.75 on an unnamed vessel.The earlier report of the Sunny Fortune 82,372-dwt 2008-built was said to be incorrect.

ASIA
Dreyfus was linked to an 82,000 new building basis delivery North China for an east coast South America fronthaul at $8,000 daily. The Peace Bright 2013-built 76,000-dwt open Batangas mid February was fixed, the owners were looking for short period. It was rumoured that the Star Vega 98,681-dwt 2011-built open Samarinda was on subjects for a Tubarao - Egyptian Red Sea iron ore cargo. The Jozen 95,710-dwt 2013-built open Japan was fixed in direct continuation with Jera for an Indonesia - Japan run. The Navios Amitie 75,356-dwt 2005-built open Nagoya was fixed for a NoPac round in the low $7,000s but no further details came to light.






ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
More stems were traded in the mid of the week, however the rates in the Atlantic did not climb any higher. The demands in the Pacific were picking up with China back to the market reflecting on both indices and fixtures.

ATLANTIC
A 56,000 dwt open in the UK was failed on subjects at mid-high $10,000s for a run to eastern Mediterranean. Oldendorff was rumoured to have taken the Triton Seagull 56,058-dwt 2007-built from east Mediterranean to South Africa at mid $8,000s. A 56,000-dwt 2013-built was put on subjects for a Cristobal to Tubarao route at $10,000 per day.
Bunge was linked to the 63,000-dwt Sarika Naree for a minimum 60 days trip at $15,650 daily basis New Orleans delivery early March via US Gulf to the Far East. An Ultramax of 63,000-dwt was paid $17,000 per daily aps Mississippi River for a run to India. Two 58,000-dwt vessels both with Recalada delivery were put on subjects for grain to Durban at $8,500 daily and Southeast Asia at $10,250 daily with a ballast bonus of $125,000 receptively.

ASIA
A Diamond 53 type was failed on subjects due to the dates for a trip via South Korea to US Gulf at mid $2,000s basis north China delivery for the first 65 days and BSI time charter average as the balance. Another 56,000-dwt open in north China was covered closed to $2,000s for a run to east coast South America. The Sun 63,672-dwt 2013-built open Zhoushan end of this week was said to have fixed also for a trip to USG at a rate in the $2,000s. A 56,000-dwt 2011-built with Longkou delivery was booked on subjects at low $5,000s for carrying slag to Southeast Asia. An Ultramax of 63,500-dwt delivery in Rizhao was failed on subjects for a NoPac round voyage of soda ash at $7,750 per day. Moving slightly south, a 55,000-dwt 2010-built open CJK failed at mid $5,000 for a trip via CIS to Southeast Asia.


HANDYSIZE
Brokers reported a touch more activities today but the rates were not too encouraging. On the period front, there was a rumour the CS Jaden 2013 38,101-dwt fixing for 6 to 9 months delivery eastern Mediterranean at $7,300 per day. The Maple Ambition 35,000-dwt built 2015 was taken by DCC Bulk Transport for 2 to 3 laden legs but no further information came to light.

The Halki 36,800-dwt was fixed delivery Antwerp for a trip to east coast South America at $4,150 for account Lauritzen. A scrap cargo was apparently concluded with a 32,000-dwt delivery UK for a trip to Southeast Asia in the upper $10,000s. Brokers suggested the 30,541-dwt Assimina was fixed delivery Recalada for a trip to Algeria at $6,750 daily while a smaller 28,200-dwt the Panforce was said to have fixed delivery Vitoria to Rotterdam at $6,500.

The 39,765-dwt Shan Hui Hai was alleged fixed delivery east coast India with a steel cargo to Indonesia at $6,000 per day.
