CAPESIZE
The weaker sentiment continued to press rates further down across the board. On the west Australia to Qingdao route, there was talk of Rio Tinto fixing $4.85 for 18/20 February and BHP fixing $4.80 for similar dates, but no vessels names mentioned.
Cargill were said to have fixed Anglo tonnage for Saldanha Bay to Qingdao basis 19/25 February at $7.90 basis 1.25% total commission. The same charterers also fixed far eastern controlled tonnage for Richards Bay to Krishnapatnam for 10/19 February at $6.15.
In the Atlantic there was talk of the Lake Dolphin (179,418 built 2011) fixing Puerto Bolivar to Rotterdam for mid February at around $6.30 level, but no charterers name mentioned.
Vale have reportedly been busy on Tubarao to Qingdao fixing a number of vessels however it is not clear how many ships basis March dates. The Mount Kinabalu (203,185 built 2005) and the Dong A Oknos which are Dreyfus vessels were said to have fixed a rate in the low $11's, but nothing has been clarified. There was talk that perhaps Marmaras and Oldendorff tonnage was also fixed but further details were lacking.
There was talk that the Cape Kestrel 181,267 built 2016 open north China mid February fixing for 12-14 months period at around $13,000 daily, however it has not been possible to get confirmation of the details.

PANAMAX
A typically quiet end to the week, and a 'wait and see' approach being taken. Like yesterday the Atlantic routes remained in negative territory whilst the Asian routes made slight gains. Period activity was present an Imabari 76 was fixed to a grain house for 4 to 7 months at $7,250 and a 81,000-dwt 2011-built open Singapore was rumoured fixed for short period but no further details came to light.

ULTRAMAX/SUPRAMAX
Brokers were currently anticipating a small positive improvement in the Asian sector. The Atlantic remained in the doldrums but sentiment might just be changing as weekend approaching. There was a suggestion a 57,700-dwt ship was taken for a period delivery Persian Gulf at about $7,500 daily but further information was not being leaked. The Ertea 2009 54,876-dwt was fixed and failed for 3 to 5 months period basis delivery Barranquilla and redelivery Atlantic at $10,500.

Atlantic
It was reported the KP Albatross, 2010 58,743-dwt was concluded for a trip at $4,000 delivery aps Garrucha, with gypsum to north coast South America with Ultrabulk. From the USEC a scrap cargo was potentially being fixed into Turkey with a 58,000-dwt vessel and the rate was thought to be around $14,000 per day. The Skywalker 63,056-dwt 2015-built was taken by Norden at $14,000 for a grain cargo from Texas to South Africa. Another 58 was mentioned close to fixing delivery US Gulf for transatlantic trade at $15,250 per day but again no further details available at the moment. Sources advised the SBI Subaru 2015 61,571-dwt was on subjects but they could not confirm if was a voyage or time charter trip.

Asia
With China back to the market today, some brokers saw the Pacific market firming up at the end of the week for both Far East and Southeast Asia opening tonnages. A 52,000-dwt delivery north China was fixed for a run via CIS at $3,500 per day redelivery back to China. A 53,000-dwt delivery in Vietnam and an Ultramax delivery in south China were both booked for a trip via Indonesia to India at $4,250 and $5,750 daily respectively. Another 53,000-dwt 2010-built with south China opening was put on subjects for a round trip also via Indonesia at mid $4,000s.

A typical Friday with very little being discussed. Hopefully next week might bring more information from the Asian market.

A 32,000-dwt vessel was linked to a having an agreement on subjects at $4,750 daily basis delivery Black Sea for a trip to Egyptian Mediterranean with a steel cargo.
Brokers reported today a fixture from last Friday of the Miltiades 11 2006-built 30,535-dwt at $6,350 delivery aps Iskenderun for a trip to west Africa. Apparently the True Love 2015 38,800-dwt which was open Durban 7/8 February had been fixed from South Africa via USEC with redely US Gulf but the rate was unknown.
