Capesize
Despite the holidays in Asia there was still activity on West Australia to China with rumours of Rio Tinto fixing 4 or maybe 5 vessels at levels between $4.75 and $4.95 and even talk that perhaps one had been covered at $5.00.
Other players were also active with FMG and BHP Billiton both paying $4.95 and Bao Steel securing a vessel at $4.80 while EDFT paid $4.75. Arrium took a ship for an end June position Whyalla/Qingdao at $6.80.
In the morning there was a report of Seafarer 181,119-dwt 2014 built fixing for an Australian round voyage at around $10,000 daily, however the rate has not been confirmed and sources now suggest the fixture has failed. The Southern Wisdom 177,325-dwt built 2004 was said to have fixed for a Pacific round voyage but again the rate level not disclosed. More incomplete reports surrounded the CPO Europe 179,000-dwt ex Lanshan 8th June being on subjects from west Australia and BHP were linked to a West Australia/China at $5.10, but so far nothing has been corroborated.

The Atlantic theatre is a bit of a stand off at the moment, with bunker prices moving up Owners are increasing their rates, whilst the charterers are trying to stay firm at previous levels.
Apparently 160,000 tons was covered by Cargill for Bolivar to Rotterdam (no Turkey option) basis 5-14 July at $5.15. A 144,000 ton stem was covered from Tubarao to El Dekheila 1-10 July although the rate was initially not reported later it was suggested to be $4.50, but some saying it might have been higher. Late reports a Tubarao/Qingdao with laydays from the 4th July was close to fixing at $9.20 could not be verified. The Navios Altamira fixed Salzgitter at $6.10 for Ponta de Madeira to Hamburg for 130,000 tons for 1-10 July dates. Oldendorff were said to have fixed the KSL Seville 181,003-dwt for Trinidad to Singapore-Japan but again no rate divulged. TKSE were linked to the Minoas for 200,000/10 Seven Islands to Rotterdam at $4.25 off a 1-10 July position and reports another stem this time for 170,000 tons was covered but the rate was not reported. The York 181,220-dwt built 2015 which was spot at Passero was fixed for a Transatlantic round voyage redelivery Skaw/Passero but no further details have emerged. Another secret fixture was hinted covered with the Cape Lambert 169,138-dwt built 2010 basis Immingham middle June for a Narvik round.

Panamax
With Dragon Boat racing in the east today things remained pretty quiet from this basin. In the Atlantic it was suggested by brokers that in the North Atlantic there was a bit move activity with some pressure on the rates, whilst the South Atlantic remained fairly flat.

The report of the Seagull Wind 82,908-dwt 2013 built basis delivery Gibraltar prompt for a trip via Port Drummond redelivery Brindisi was incorrect and not fixed. The Scandinavian Express 93,038-dwt 2010 built was rumoured to have been covered for a Baltic round but no further details were heard. There was a rumour that a post panamax might have been covered in excess of $10,500 but again little emerged. Unsubstantiated rumours remained that Norden might have fixed a Murmansk round but no more details came to light. Cofco was understood to have a panamax on subjects for their Black Sea - Continent on voyage basis but that was all that was heard thus far. The Athinoula 82,000-dwt 2012 built was reported fixed for an east coast South America front haul at $7,300 daily plus $230,000 ballast bonus . The Atlas 2012 built 75,122-dwt was understood to have been covered basis delivery retro Gibraltar 1 June for a trip via the US Gulf with redelivery Persian Gulf at close to $9,000 daily.

From the east Norvic was rumoured to have taken the DL Dahlia 81,667-dwt 2013 built on subjects for a Xingang to EC India with metcoke no rate was released but brokers suggested in the region of low - mid $3000s. SDTR was understood to have covered a vessel for their South Australia to China grain cargo for end June, but limited details remained. The Ikan Kedewas 88,266-dwt 2006 built open Wenzhou was linked on subjects with NYK for Haypoint to Japan in the low $4,000s. The Cic Epos 2014 built 79,258-dwt was reported having covered with PWSL basis delivery Richards Bay 20-25 June for a trip redelivery India at $6,500 daily + $150,000 ballast bonus.
Little else emerged.

Supramax / Handysize
Again a fairly quiet day.

On the period front the Alexandros Theo 45,000-dwt 2000 built open Cotonou was rumoured to have been taken by Baltnav for short period in the mid $5,000s , it remained unclear about the redelivery ranges and exact duration. From east coast South America, Hudson was linked to the Nautical Lucia 63,546-dwt 2016 built but little further details were heard. A Chinese 57,000-dwt open Lagos was understood to have been taken on subjects with Panocean for an east coast South America front haul but no rates were released. A 58,000-dwt open US east coast was heard being put on subjects for a trip US Gulf to the Continent. The Victoria 2016 built 61,600-dwt was reported fixed basis delivery US Gulf prompt for a trip with scrap redelivery Turkey at $12,500 daily. There was a rumour that a 53,000 was fixed for a scrap run via the Baltic to east Mediterranean but little more emerged. From the east Mediterranean a Supramax was understood to have fixed a front haul again little emerged.

On the smaller sizes it remained to be heard if subjects were lifted on a handy logger basis delivery Skaw trip via the Baltic redelivery Egypt in the mid $6,000s. Otherwise the Apuana D 1998 built 31,962-dwt was linked to delivery US Gulf prompt trip redelivery north coast South America at $7,500 daily with Seacape.
A 28,000 dwt was understood to have fixed at $5,500 daily for a trip from South Korea via Penang to EC India further details remained under wraps.
Unsurprisingly with festivities in the east a quiet day all in all with little reported.
