Capesize
There was a lot more enquiry in the Cape market today, mostly out of West Australia where rates continued to strengthen particularly for early ships. With China, Taiwan and Hong Kong all on their Dragon Boat festival holidays for the rest of the week we will have to see if this momentum can be maintained.

Early in the day Cargill fixed the Uming vessel Cape Mars at 175,882-dwt at $4.50 ex West Australia from 21st June. Having taken 4 vessels yesterday at levels of around $4.30-35 Rio Tinto took at least two ships this am at $4.75 for eta 18-20Jun in Dampier. FMG were linked to two fixtures at $4.85 and $4.95 with the highest rate going on a Swiss Marine vessel, the China Triumph. Later rumours suggested that $5.10 had been paid for another early ship but this has yet to be substantiated.
Sources finally revealed the Alpha Prudence 178,002-dwt built 2008 secured $7,000 daily for a trip via West Australia redelivery China for account GNS who had booked a Dampier/Qingdao at $4.30 with Rio. Apparently the Dong A Leto 179,000-dwt built 2010 open in Taicang 11 th June was fixed but details not reported.
The King Sail 177,643-dwt built 2002 fixed delivery Singapore for 6/9 months period in the region of $6,750 daily to Classic who were rumoured to have relet her to BHP at $4.70.

Sadly in the Atlantic the tonnage supply is such that rates are struggling to go anywhere and despite a few new orders this morning activity remains sluggish. An Oldendorff ship, Minoas 207,520-dwt 2015 built, fixed TKS for a 200/10 cargo Seven Islands/Rotterdam for 1-10 July but so far the rate was remaining elusive. The CIC Pride 171,870-dwt built 2002 was fixed passing Cape of Good Hope for a trip via Brazil with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $8,500 daily plus a ballast bonus of $375,000 to Hyundai Glovis. Further talk suggested Trafigura had fixed the KSL Sakura 181,000-dwt 2015 built for a Sudeste/Qingdao cargo for end June on time charter basis but the rate could not be confirmed at this stage. Sources also suggested the York 181,000-dwt built 2015 open Passero spot had covered for some Trans Atlantic employment but again details not leaked.

Panamax
It remains fairly quiet from the Atlantic basin some commented today with brokers suggesting some poor numbers being talked on what little business there is for transatlantic business. A bit moire activity was suggested from east coast South America but rates remained fairly stable.

An 81,000-dwt 2014 was rumoured to have been covered at somewhere in the low $7,000s plus low $200,000 ballast bonus for an east coast South America front haul.
The Bellatrix 77,000-dwt 2006 built, giving Tubarao 18-20 June was rumoured to have fixed at $7,300 daily plus $$225,000 ballast bonus for a trip east. The Sea Gemini 2014 built 81,716-dwt was reported fixed basis delivery east coast South America end June for a trip Singapore-JHapan at $7,300 daily plus $230,000 ballast bonus .A charterer was understood to be on subjects for a 70,000/10 lift Tubarao / Mauban with free d/a's at discharge at around $2.40 further details remained under wraps.

From the east the Ionic Katana 82,936-dwt 2005 built was understood to have fixed a west Australia round but no further details were heard. It remained to be seen if a 73,000 -dwt got her subjects for a NoPac round in the mid $3,000s. An 81,000-dwt was understood to have been taken for an east coast Australia run to China at close to $4,000 daily. Whilst the Ikan Bagat 83,000-dwt 2010 built open Dalian 8th June was said to be on subjects for Australia to India also around $4,000. An 82,000-dwt was rumoured to have been taken by IVS basis delivery Durban for a trip to China at $6,500 daily plus $160,000 ballast bonus. Also a 74,000 dwt was understood to be on subjects basis delivery passing Durban for a trip to India at $6,200 plus $120,000 ballast bonus.
On the period front the Koulitsa 76,858-dwt 2003 built was reported to have achieved $5,750 daily plus $190,000 ballast bonus basis delivery Richards Bay for a short period of 4-7 months but charterers name was not released.

Supramax / Handysize
Some brokers suggested that east coast South America might be short of tonnage for both handy and supramax sizes, but as of yet this remained to be seen.

A 57,000-dwt the JPO Dorado was linked to Cargill having taken her basis delivery Santos for a trip to Algeria some said in the low $8,000s whilst others said it was closer to $7,500 daily. An Ultramax was said to have fixed and failed for a Brazil front haul possibly to Chittagong at $10,500 daily plus $105,000 ballast bonus. Rumours that low $13,000s was being discussed for a supra movement with petcoke to India remained unconfirmed. From the Continent brokers suggested easier rates being achieved, a 55,000-dwt spot in Antwerp was understood to be on subjects basis delivery Skaw for a trip eastern Mediterranean at below $8,000. On scrap business rumours came to light that an Ultramax was on subjects at below $8,500 daily for a trip to Turkey. From the east Mediterranean a 53,000-dwt open Iskenderun was fixed in the mid $7000 basis delivery Skaw via St Petersburg to Turkey but this remained unconfirmed.
On the smaller sister's a 33,343-dwt 2014 was understood to be on subjects for a trip basis delivery Santos redelivery east Mediterranean in the upper $5,000s. A 2015 built 39,000-dwt was rumoured to have fixed basis delivery east coast South America to west coast South America at close to $9,000. Little else was heard.

In the East a 56,000-dwt 2011 built open CJK was understood to having fixed basis dop for a nickel ore run via Philippines to China at $5,750 daily. Also another Supramax
might have fixed at $6,000 daily for a similar run. The Conti Peridot 2011 built 57,001-dwt 2011 built was reported basis delivery Singapore prompt for a trip with coal via Indonesia redelivery China at $5,500 daily to Deyesian. Little else came to light.
