CAPESIZE
Owners saw some improvement in rates today from Brazil with a good cargo flow as they held out for firmer numbers. The trading range was fairly narrow but for now, rates generally hovered either side of $9.00 depending on the load port.
Cargill paid the RWE relet Philadelphia 2012-built 2006-dwt at $9.15 for a 27 June-7 July cargo from CSN to Qingdao at $9.15.
Earlier SwissMarine relet three ships 창?혫 one to Oldendorff for a 15-24 June 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao, one to Panocean for 22-29 June on the same run at $8.90 and one to Anglo American for an end June cargo from Acu to Qingdao at $9.00. The An May 174,674-dwt 2005-built was mentioned as one of the ships involved.
Reports suggested that the Cape Osprey 171,000-dwt 1999-built fixed to a South Korean charterer, believed to be Hyundai Glovis, from Zhoushan 4 June for a Brazil round at a stronger $7,000 daily.
The north Atlantic tonnage list remained lengthy and cargoes in tight supply with little coal fixing out of Colombia and few cargoes from Brazil. Reports that ArcelorMittal fixed a 15-24 June 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Ponta da Madeira to Dunkirk west and east in the low $5.00s were said to be premature.
There was talk that Vale fixed a CCL vessel for a cargo from Brazil to the Continent, but details were not forthcoming. Oldendorff allegedly fixed a TKS Sepetiba/Continent cargo at just $4.29, but this was not confirmed.
K-Line secured an NSSMC tender to move a 21-30 June 150,000-tonne 10% cargo from Mobile to Japan, but a rate was not disclosed. K-Line was rumoured to have fixed the EdF relet Nymphe 180,018-dwt 2009-built from Rotterdam for a trip to the options with allegedly several loading options at $12,750 daily.
CCL won a Shangdong tender to move a 22-30 June 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Pepel to Qingdao at $8.55.
In the east, there was steady West Australia activity with rumours that BHP Billiton fixed the Huang Shan 175,980-dwt 2003-built for eta 16-17 June at $4.25-30 and also the 2010-built Hebei Legend open Tianjin 3 but this ship was linked to DHL for an east coast Australian round at $6,250 daily.
The Maria A Angelicoussi 169,150-dwt 2001-built open Fangcheng 12 June was said fixed to the same charterer but others suggested Rio Tinto, but a rate was not reported. RGL booked GUE tonnage for 17-21 June cargo from West Australia to China at $4.35.
Teck Coal booked Caravel tonnage for a 20-30 June 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from Roberts Bank to Fangcheng at $5.65 based on 1.25%. Cargill was said to have booked an Anglo American vessel for an 11 June onwards cargo from Indonesia to India at $3.97.
Timecharter reports included Oldendorff booking the Q.Kaki a 181,214-dwt 2014-built SwissMarine relet for prompt delivery Lanshan for an Australian or NoPac round at $7,500 daily. The same charterer also took the 180,727-dwt 2009-built Navios Pollux from Lanshan prompt for a round voyage in the east for redelivery south China at $6,000 daily with a north China redelivery option at $6,500 daily.
The 179,436-dwt 2010-built E.R. Boston for a 3 June delivery Jintang for a round voyage at just $5,200 daily.
The Navios Aurora III 2009-built 169,000-tonner prompt Dangjin fixed, but sources said this ship fixed to TKS earlier this week for a coal cargo from Hay Point to Rotterdam on private terms.

PANAMAX
Rates were generally easier in most areas of the market but at South America business was relatively steady and rates were at least holding relatively steady. Tonnage remained tight in the US Gulf with early ships achieving firmer numbers.
Rates in the east were sliding with charterers lowballing rates with on some trades trying under $3,000 daily.
Period trading was limited with charterers sensing the easier market and offering little more than the low $5,000s to Kamsarmaxes for short period.

ATLANTIC
The Qi Xiang 22 75,658-dwt 2012-built was today reported on subjects for retroactive delivery 24-25 May Gibraltar for a trip via the US Gulf to the east at a good $9,600 daily, but a charterer was not disclosed.
Bunge earlier took the Spring Wealth 93,379-dwt 2011-built for prompt delivery Gibraltar for a trip via Trombetas to China at $8,750 daily and not $7,800 daily as some had earlier suggested.
The 2011-built Hanjin Hirose 83,494-dwt due 4 June Cape Passero, fixed and failed for Gibraltar delivery at $7,500 daily for a trip via the Orinoco to the east.
The ADMI-controlled shallow drafted eco Harvest Rain 95,000-dwt 2015-built fixed to Uniper for spot delivery Gibraltar for a trip via the US Gulf to the UK-Continent at $6,000 daily. However Salzgitter booked Baumarine tonnage for a second half June 75,000-tonne 10% cargo from Mobile to Hamburg at just $8.25.
Further north, ACB earlier booked the 74,832-dwt 2001-built from Stade 3 June for a trip via the Baltic to Turkey at an unexciting $4,800 daily.
South America included talk that the Andros 82,150-dwt 2010-built passing the Cape of Good Hope 2 June fixed aps east coast South America to the east at $7,200 daily plus a $220,000 bonus, but a charterer was not disclosed with the suggestion too that the rate was higher.
Sinotrans was linked with the Antwerpia 81,492-dwt 2012-built for retroactive delivery India at a rate in the low $5,000s for east coast South America. Norden took two ships one aps and one from India, but details remained private.

ASIA
CHS booked the Striggla 75,196-dwt 2009-built from Yosu spot for a NoPac round at $4,200 daily but sources said charterers today were dropping their rate ideas.
Sivabulk and not Norvic fixed the Cymona Energy 2012-built 74,867-dwt open 8-9 June Niihama for a trip via Vanino to India at $4,900 daily.
Sources said earlier that the Red Rose 76,629-dwt 2003-built 4-5 June Xiamen went at $3,900 daily for a trip via Dalrymple to Cigading at $3,900 daily remained on subjects. A charterer was not disclosed.

The Copernicus N 83,062-dwt 2010-dwt open Zhangjiang prompt has gone on as yet private terms.

SUPRAMAX/HANDYSIZE
As expected a busier day with more information about fixtures and negotiations being shared.

Sources reported an Oshima 53 concluded a trip with delivery West Africa via Buchanan to China at $8,000 daily. It was suggested a 42,000-tonner had covered up River to west coast South America in the upper $7,000s, but possibly the business has not fully fixed. Gearbulk and the Bridgegate 53,477-dwt parted company on charter party terms at $8,000 daily for another up River delivery but this time for a trip to South Africa. A 57,000-dwt ship was linked to a trip delivery east coast South America via the Red Sea with redelivery Port Said at mid $7,000s. but sources could not confirm this 100 percent. The US Gulf market still seemed strong and with talk of a 63,000-tonner fixed in the region of $14,000 daily for a trip to China with another Ultra maybe achieving in excess of $15,000 to go to India. Rumours a Supra was on subjects from the US Gulf for a trip to the Mediterranean around $13,500 daily maybe something to do with another report of a petcoke stem into the Mediterranean allegedly covered with the Universal Baltimore 201-built 56,791-dwt, but further details were unavailable.

In the East, the Sheng An Hai 56,564-dwt built-2012 failed for nickel ore business delivery South China for a trip via the Philippines to China at $4,700 daily. The St George 2012 58,000-dwt fixed delivery Quanzho for a trip via China with fertilisers at $5,850 with redelivery west coast India with an option at $4,650 for east coast India but with redelivery Penang (this corrects the earlier report). Noble was linked to a 53,000-dwt vessel basis delivery Singapore trip via Indonesia to China at $4,600 daily. Brokers suggested a 63,000-dwt vessel built in 2014 was close to fixing a trip to the Red Sea with a China delivery - the rate could not be verified but was understood in the low $6,000s. The Sinar Kutai 2010-built 57,334-dwt secured about $5,000 daily for delivery ex-drydock Dalian 6-7 June for a trip via Japan to the PG with a slag cargo, while a 56,000-dwt went to the Red Sea at $6,000 daily for a prompt delivery in CJK.

Little information in the Handysize sector emerged but the Asia index routes went up a few marginal points today. Brokers revealed a 33,000-dwt was covered for a fertiliser cargo from Continent via the Baltic to Vietnam in the region $7,500 daily, but full details so far could not be confirmed.
Another Vietnam destination, this time a 28,000-dwt fixed delivery Philippines trip via Australia to Vietnam at something over $4,500 daily, but further information was not forthcoming.
