CAPESIZE
What was a very marginal rise in rates on the key West Australia/China run Monday proved very short-lived a Rio Tinto secured tonnage today at under $4.20. Late Monday the charterer fixed the Giuseppe Bottiglieri for a 6-10 June cargo from Dampier to Qingdao at $4.20 but today was linked with possibly Zosco tonnage/Fuk Hing tonnage at $4.15 and $4.10 and possibly another, but it was not clear what was done.
Rates generally were off with Cosco securing a POSCO tender to move a 190,000-tonne 10% cargo from Port Walcott to Kwangyang at $3.38. Sinometals took Oldendorff tonnage for a 160,000-tonne 10% coal cargo from Dalrymple Bay to Fangcheng for 15-20 June at $4.70 basis 1.25% total. Jiangsu Steamship covered an 11-20 June 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from Dalrymple Bay or Hay Point to Qingdao or Jingtang, but a rate was not disclosed. The charterer has another cargo for 15-24.
Sinometals paid Oldendorff tonnage $4.70 basis 1.25% total to move a 15-20 June 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from Dalrymple Bay or Hay Point or Abbot Point to Jintang.
NYK took a smaller SwissMarine vessel for a cargo from Huasco to China on private terms. Shourong covered a 15-30 July 130,000-tonne 10% cargo from San Nicolas to Qingdao a rate linked to the BCI C3 route assessment (Tubarao/Qingdao).
Olddendorff fully fixed the Cape Ray 177,853-dwt 2007-built from Lianyungang prompt for an Australian round at $5,000 daily. The 2011-built 176,405-dwt Savina open Qinhuangdao over the weekend fixed, but little else emerged.
Atlantic trading was again slow and although there was some talk on the transatlantic coal runs, little has been fixed. MOL reportedly booked the Anangel Virtue 180,391-dwt 2012-built from Immingham for a trip via Narvik and Turkey with redelivery Cape Passero $9,600 daily.

PANAMAX
Another very slow day with rates slipping in many areas. There remained little fresh direction from east coast South America to the east with rates hovering in the low to mid $7,000 daily plus low-mid $200,000 bonuses for reasonably eco ships. The US Gulf was one of the few areas where gains are to be made with the supply of prompt tonnage limited.
In the east, most charterers were bidding almost everything today from Panamaxes to Post Panamaxes at under $5,000 daily. With uncertainty over South American cargoes, more owners with tonnage in southeast Asia were willing to consider Indonesian rounds.
Period trading was again piecemeal despite some suggesting charterers were showing interest for ships up to a year. Louis Dreyfus took the 82,305-dwt 2012-built Ocean Garlic from Lianyungang 25-28 May for 7 to 9 months trading at $5,400 daily.

ATLANTIC
Oldendorff reportedly booked an LME on subjects earlier for a 6-12 June cargo from Kamsar to Stade, but details were not reported.
The Star Helena 82,191-dwt 2006-built prompt Eregli was linked with China Shipping for a trip from the Black Sea to China, but a rate was not reported.
In the US Gulf, the Clipper Vision 77,154-dwt 2015-built was said on for a trip to the east. Details were not disclosed but there was some suggestion this could be the ship rumoured booked at $13,000 daily plus a $300,000 bonus.
From South America, Louis Dreyfus was tentatively linked with the Aquavita relet Pantera Rosa 2009-built 78,844-dwt for a trip to the east at $7,300 daily plus a $300,000 bonus.
The same charterer was also rumoured to have taken a ship for a trip from east coast South America to Skaw-Cape Passero at $7,500 daily, but little else emerged.

ASIA
Oldendorff today reportedly took a Post Panamax from east coast Australia to east coast India at $4,500 daily.
Rio Tinto conceded earlier $5,500 daily to the 93,297-dwt 2010-built Great Aspiration from Taichung prompt for a trip via Weipa to China.
Sources said the Nord Penguin 2015-built 81,500-dwt open Mariveles 26 May fixed on subjects for a trip from Indonesia to the Philippines, but a charterer and rate was not reported.
The 76,466-dwt 2004-built Star Iris open South Korea fixed and failed with Louis Dreyfus for a NoPac round at $5,000 daily. Last week Bunge booked the 2012-built 76,433-dwt Peace Gem from Hong Kong 23-25 May for a West Australian round at $5,250 daily.
Mitsubishi covered a 20 June-1 July 60,000-tonne 10% from the Columbia River to Japan at $15.00.
CSE covered a 12-17 June 80,000-tonne 10% cargo from Hay Point to Taiwan. The charterer had initially been linked with the Post Panamax Ocean Treasure at $6.28, but although the ship has allegedly gone it was not for this business. Others said CSE took the Great Animation 93,203-dwt 2011-built for the business but in the low $5.00s.

SUPRAMAX/HANDYSIZE
Again another seemingly quiet day reporting wise.

ATLANTIC
An Ultramax was rumoured to have been put on subjects for a trip from Santos to Far East for early June dates at around $10,000 plus $100,000 ballast bonus, however some suggested that the rate was closer to $9,500 daily plus $95,000 bonus. A 57,000 dwt was rumoured fixed on subjects for a trip from the US Gulf to the west coast Central America with some suggesting Norden took the ship at close to $15,500 daily. Another 57,000-tonner was reported to have fixed for a trip delivery US Gulf via East Africa with redelivery South Africa at $9,000 daily. Very Little else emerged.

ASIA
The Friendly Seas 58,000-dwt 2008 built was fixed basis delivery Mumbai for a trip via Sulalah redelivery Japan at $6,000 daily with a Japanese charterer. A Tess 58,000-dwt open South Africa was rumoured on subjects for a trip to the Persian Gulf in the upper $8,000s. A 52,000-tonner open Manila was understood to have fixed in the low $5,000s for a coal run to China. A vague rumour circulated that a Dolphin type was understood to have been fixed at close to $6,300 daily basis Singapore for a trip via Indonesia to India.
