CAPESIZE
An odd start to the day as rates eased a touch in the east after a busy trading Tuesday which saw rates rise in excess of $4.50 from West Australia to Qingdao.
Rio Tinto was largely in the frame today fixing a Topsail vessel for early June or around 5-6 June eta for 170,000-tonnes from Dampier to Qingdao at $4.50 and then the charterer linked with the Pacific Bulk relet Ping May 2010-built for 5-6 June at $4.40. There was talk that EdF took a ship in direct continuation for 5 June onwards from West Australia to Qingdao, but a rate was not reported.
Polaris took the Giant Ace 179,147-dwt 2009-built open Caofeidian spot for a round voyage in the east, but a rate was not disclosed. The sister ship Ocean Road open Caofeidian went to either Polaris or Hyundai Glovis for a Brazil round, but again a rate was not disclosed.
Libra reportedly covered a 150,000-tonne 10% coal cargo from Indonesia to India for 28 May-3 June shipment at $3.75.
Period business included Rio Tinto booking the 2003-built 171,015-dwt Aquaglory from Qinhuangdao prompt for 6 to 9 months trading at a good $7,400 daily. The Lin Jie 177,359-dwt also 2003-built went to Classic Maritime for 5 to 7 months trading with retroactive 11 May Zhoushan for 5 to 7 months trading at $6,800 daily.
In the Atlantic, NSSMC awarded a tender to K-Line, using the Cape Sunrise, 181,422-dwt 2012-built at $12.80 to move a 160,000-tonne 10% coal cargo from Baltimore to Oita.
Classic Maritime reportedly took the K-Line relet Cape Orchid 172,589-dwt 2001-built from Icdas for something under $18,000 daily for a trip via the Black Sea to the east.
There was talk that Trafigura booked a cargo from Nouadhibou to Qingdao for mid-June, but details provide elusive.
From Brazil, sources said Cargill secured the Panocean relet Nightkiss 2015-built for a 4-5 June cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao at a low $8.35. Vale booked a SwissMarine vessel for 20-29 May from Tubarao to Sohar, but a rate was not reported.
Transatlantic business was limited although the Cape Elise 174,124-dwt 2005-built EdF relet went to K-Line London for an 8-17 June cargo from Puerto Bolivar to Turkey, but a rate was not disclosed. A Rotterdam option was said to be $6.20.
TKS booed the New Athens 1999-built 170,565-dwt for a 10-24 June cargo fro Guaiba to Rotterdam at $4.60.


PANAMAX
A flat day창?혲s trading with activity spasmodic but overall the market still holding with rates largely at last done or in some cases very much a touch better.
In the north Atlantic there was a touch more business from the Baltic but for June dates largely, The US Gulf was tight for end May dates, but little reported fixed from the area while east coast South America was largely well supported.
Rates in the east were mixed with rates largely at last done and owners reluctant to commit for longer durations and ships in the south still looking to South America.
Sources today said Aquavita took the Four Coal 76,822-dwt 2014-built open Civitavecchia for a year or thereabouts with Gibraltar delivery at an average of the BPI 4-timecharters plus 14.00% and then relet the ship for a trip via east coast South America to the east at $8,350 daily and not $8,500 daily.
Cargill took the Capetan Costas S 81,542-dwt 2012-built open China 22-28 May for 16 to 20 months trading at $5,900 daily 창?혫 the main terms were allegedly agreed last week and details finalized Monday.

ATLANTIC
There was talk that the 2013-built 81,236-dwt Cemtex Innovation open Poland 29 May for a trip to the Mediterranean with redelivery Cape Passero at $7,300 daily, but a charterer was not disclosed.
Rio Tinto booked the Lowlands Kamsar 82,206-dwt 2010-built from Gibraltar for a quick trip trip via Kamsar to India $10,950 daily. The Louis Dreyfus relet Gorgoypikosos 76,498-dwt 2005-built spot Brindisi went for a trip via north coast South America to the east possibly to Oldendorff at close to $8,750 daily.
Further south, Sinotrans earlier fixed the Oriental Wise 81,601-dwt 2011-built a 1-10 June position east coast South America and allegedly agreed retroactive Singapore at $5,900 daily.
The Kea 75,633-dwt 2010-built fixed for 21 May onwards from Hazira via east coast South America to the east, but a rate was not reported. ADMI was said to have fixed a ship but not the Kea.
The Panorama 81,504-dwt 2012-built due 21 May east coast South America fixed for a trip to the east at $7,300 daily plus a $230,000 bonus, but a rate was not reported.

ASIA
PCL was said earlier on subjects with the OIivia R 81,800-dwt 2015-built open Nantong spot, for delivery passing Taiwan for a trip via Indonesia to India at $5,100 daily. Tuesday the Cape Kennedy 81,391-dwt 2012-built agreed $6,000 daily for Singapore delivery for a trip via Indonesia to India, but a charterer was not reported.
Hayne booked the Jin Hang 93,069-dwt 2012-built for a 26 May-5 June cargo from CIS Pacific to South Korea, but a rate was not reported.
Panocean allegedly booked the Orient Union 79,754-dwt 2011-built from Shidao 20 May for a trip via NoPac to South Korea at $4,750 daily.]
The 2011-built 74,500-dwt Golden Suek open 29 May Philippines fixed on subjects, but details have yet to emerge.
Engelhart booked tonnage on voyage basis for a mid-June cargo from west coast Mexico to the east, but little else emerged.


SUPRAMAX/HANDYSIZE
A mixed day today easing in some areas whilst remaining steady in others.

ATLANTIC
An Ultramax was rumoured to have been fixed from the Continent to the US east coast or US Gulf in the $5,000s with a European charterer, but little further emerged. There was a unsubstantiated rumour that a 63,000-dwt fixed east coast South America to Southeast Asia in the low $9,000s plus $94,000 ballast bonus, which brokers considered was high if correct. The Nan Hai 1996-built 45,181-dwt was reported fixed basis delivery Canakkale prompt for a trip via the Black Sea redelivery Persian Gulf at approximately $8,000 daily. A Diamond 53,000-dwt was understood to have been covered on subjects for a scrap run fromthe UK-Continent to east Mediterranean but other details remained undisclosed.
On the Handysize rumours remained that a 32,000-dwt was fixed on voyage basis for east coast South America to the Continent-Mediterranean at a timecharter equivalent in the mid $5,000s, but lliitle else was heard. A handy fertilizer movement was covered on subjects ex Murmansk to east coast South America, but again little further was revealed.
A 33,720-dwt 2005-built was reported covered basis delivery Skaw for a trip via the Baltic redelivery US east coast-east coast South America in the mid $7.000s. It was suggested that a 37,000-dwt was covered basis delivery Continent for trip to the Far East in the low $8,000s

ASIA
A 47,522-dwt 2014-built open south China was understood to have failed on subjects for a coal run to the Philippines in the mid $4,000s. The Maple Ruby 57,000-dwt 2010-built was reported fixed delivery Tieshan prompt for a trip via Philippines redelivery China with nickel ore at close to $5,000 daily. A 57,000-dwt open South Africa
was rumoured to have fixed a trip to the Far East with coal in the upper $7,000s, but little else was heard.
Handysize reports included a 37,302-dwt 2010-built being fixed and failed for a cement run basis delivery north China to south east Asia at $5,500 daily. Otherwise brokers said there was much talk but little reported fixed.
