CAPESIZE
Rates for Capesizes remained under pressure and drifted again today on many of the key routes.
Rio Tinto took a ship for a 6 August onwards 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Dampier to Qingdao at $4.00 and one for 10 August onwards at the same rate. The Rosco Maple 2010-built 179,764-dwt was linked with the later cargo. Cargill reportedly fixed clean one vessel for 7-11 August from West Australia to China and one on subjects for the same dates, but details were not reported. Refined Success covered two cargoes for 16-25 August from West Australia to China with one possibly the 2002-built 173,044-dwt CSK Glory, but a rate was not reported. POSCO awarded Cosco a tender to move a 10-19 August 190,000-tonne 10% cargo from Port Hedland to Kwangyang at an unchanged $3.45. Classic Maritime booked the Guo May 176,000-dwt 2011-built for 8 August onwards for a West Australia/China cargo at $4.20 with the usual $299,000 disbursements and this rate 20 cents under the last done. Bao-NYK took a Golden Union vessel on the West Australia/China run at $4.08.
Timecharter trading included the 177,932-dwt 2007-built Star Angie for 26-27 July delivery Nantong on subjects for a round voyage with Polaris at $5,500 daily. The Grand Century 174,333-dwt 2005-built 27 July Kemen fixed for a round voyage at $4,000 daily, but little else emerged.
The Alpha Prudence 178,002-dwt 2007-built, which sailed Rizhao 23 July, allegedly went to Polaris for a long round voyage. It emerged that the Pacific Success 2011-built 180,407-dwt, which sailed Zhangjiagang 24 July fixed at the end of last week, but details were not disclosed.
The Louis Dreyfus relet Shinyo Alliance 2005-built 176,269-dwt, due Brazil 9 August has also gone, but details were elusive.
Oldendorff reportedly covered a cargo from Tubarao to Bahrain on a timecharter basis at a rate said to equate to $6.75. Polaris was linked with the Excel for a cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao, but this proved incorrect and did not fix this business.
Late talk included an RWE vessel fixing direct with Vale for a cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao at $8.80.
Anglo American covered a 14-16 August 170,000-tonne 10% cargo on an 180,000-dwt Imabari type from Saldanha Bay to Qingdao at a lower $6.30. Sinochart booked Anglo American tonnage at the end of last week for a 24-29 August cargo on this run but a rate was not reported.
Vale covered a 5-9 August 160,000-tonne 10% cargo from Nacala, Mozambique to Rotterdam but a rate and ship were not forthcoming.
In the north Atlantic, Noble Monday fixed a 12-22 August cargo from Drummond to Iskenderun at a rate based on the C7 plus an undisclosed premium.

PANAMAX
The north Atlantic showed further signs of weakening today with little fresh business today and tonnage continuing to build. There too was little fresh activity in the US Gulf, but South American rates remained steady with good LMEs in the high $7,000s daily and high $200,000s bonus and more like $8,000 and $300,000 for Kamsarmaxes.
Charterers succeeded in talking the market lower in the east as more ships came open in the market. However, some sources said Chinese owners were increasingly using tonnage for the domestic market and that there remained business from Indonesia and Australia to China. Rates rumoured today were significantly lower.

ATLANTIC
From South America, Caravel booked a mid-August cargo from east coast South America to southeast Asia on private terms. There was talk the charterer took the Hanaro relet Sea Opal, 79,342-dwt 2010-built due 13-14 August Santos.
From the US east coast, Cobelfret earlier put a ship on subjects to move an 8-12 August 70,000-tonne 10% cargo from Baltimore to Ijmuiden a rate in the low $7.00s.
TKCSA took an Ultrabulk vessel to move an 8-18 August 70,000-tonne 10% cargo from Baltimore and Norfolk to Sepetiba at $7.90.
Noble Chartering was said to have covered on subjects a 4-10 August cargo from Drummond to Brindisi on a timecharter basis.
It emerged that Cargill fixed the NYK-controlled LBC Energy 71,066-dwt 2011-built for a trip from Canakkale via the Black Sea to South Korea with grain at $12,000 daily.

ASIA
Guodian allegedly claimed earlier to have on subjects an LME open north China able to make 10-14 August east coast Australia for a trip to China in the low $5,000s daily. There were some brokers suggesting an LME was booked for a NoPac round Monday at $5,500 daily but detail was not disclosed.
The 77,211-dwt 2014-built Sunny Eternity from Kobe for a NoPac round at $7,100 daily earlier, but a charterer was not disclosed.
Caravel fixed and failed with the 2002-built 74,181-dwt Banzai for 2-5 August delivery CJK for a NoPac/India run at $6,000 daily.
Norvic booked a ship open Singapore for a 29 July-2 August cargo from Indonesia to India at $6,600 daily.
Panocean was linked with the Sea Express 79,252-dwt 2012-built from CJK for a trip via Newcastle to Malaysia at $5,900 daily.
Caravel covered a cargo from NoPac to China at $6,500 daily. The Zheng Run 81,810-dwt 2013-built open Jintang was linked with the business. The 81,793-dwt 2013-built Zheng Rong was said on subjects for Xiamen delivery for a trip via Indonesia to south China at a rate in the low $7,000s daily.
Sinoeast put the CMB Chardonnay 95,707-dwt 2012-built on subjects earlier for 27 July delivery Zhuhai for a trip via east coast Australia to Ploce, but a rate was not disclosed. Some had earlier mistakenly linked the ship with Rio Tinto.
Cobelfret took the United Splendour 82,129-dwt 2014-built for spot delivery Seki Saki for a Newcastle round in the low $6,000s daily range. Ultrabulk was linked with a Kamsarmax open in Port Klang for a 1-10 August cargo from Indonesia to Malaysia at a rate in the low $7,000s daily.
An undisclosed charterer took the Diamond Ocean 82,312-dwt 2014-built from Singapore for a trip from Indonesia to Southeast Asia at $7,000 daily.

SUPRAMAX/HANDYSIZE

SUPRAMAX
A very slow Tuesday with brokers having very little to discuss. The consensus seemed to be that all sectors were likely to ease. A 61,000-tonner was linked to an 8-12 month period delivery the Black Sea in the region $7,500 daily with redelivery Atlantic although a Singapore-Japan option was available with charterers paying a bonus.
The Apus 63,800-dwt built 2014 fixed delivery east coast South America 1-7 August for a trip redelivery Singapore-Japan range at $10,250 daily plus $100,000 ballast bonus. There was a rumour a 50,000-tonner was fixed for the same trip at $9,000 daily plus $90,000 bonus but further details were not forthcoming. From the Continent two scrap cargoes were reported, one 53,000-dwt booked at $8,500 daily and the other a 50,326-dwt 2001 built vessel at $8,600 daily, both for redelivery eastern Mediterranean.

In Asia, a 58,000-dwt covered a trip delivery Lanshan via the Philippines with nickel ore to China at $7,250 daily. The Winning Bright 2012 built 58,756-dwt concluded a trip delivery Yantai trip to Indonesia with steel at $6,900 daily. The Amber L 2000 built 47,282-dwt was fixed delivery Xingang spot for a trip redelivery Singapore- Penang range at $6,500 daily. Little else emerged.

HANDYSIZE
The Handysize indices had a plus sign on all routes except for HS3 but sources considered it a generally a flat day.
There was talk that a 28,000-dwt was taken for a trip via Bahia Blanca to north Brazil at $7,500 daily. Further speculation surrounded a 35,000-tonner fixing delivery Itaqui for a trip to the Baltic at $6,000 daily. A 35,000-dwt vessel was linked to a short period delivery and redelivery in the Atlantic at $7,500 daily, but little else surfaced.
