A slow start and some suggesting a negative start. The north Atlantic remained slow with just a few regular cargoes quoted with trading today from the US Gulf and the Black Sea also limited. There remained a reasonable volume of cargoes for first half August from east coast South America with reports of improved numbers paid.

SUPRAMAX/HANDY
A slow start to the week with few new reports about on-going negotiations.

The Atlantic was very sluggish although a few brokers suggested that east coast South America was showing some signs that fresh cargoes were bubbling under the surface.
Two fixtures were reported, one sugar cargo booked on a 58,000-tonner to PG-Japan range at $10,750 daily plus $175,000 ballast bonus and a Tess 52 covered at $10,000 daily plus $100,000 ballast bonus for a trip to west coast India.

The Asian scene had a few more snippets with sources suggesting the Amoy Action 2010-built 56,873-dwt was on subjects with Cos Marine delivery Jingtang spot trip via the Philippines with redelivery China with nickel ore at $6,750. The same charterer earlier took a Dolphin type, the Banos A 57,044-dwt 2010 built for delivery dop Machong at $7,500 daily. The Winning Bright 2012-built 58,756-dwt fixed and failed with Winning at $7,600 daily to move a nickel ore cargo to China with delivery Yantai. The Sinica Graeca 2015-built 63,000-dwt was booked for delivery Port Klang for a trip via Dalrymple Bay to India at $8,250 daily. Sources revealed the Amber L 2000-built 47,282-dwt was on subjects delivery Tianjin for a trip to south-east Asia with steel at $6,500 daily. Handy Atlantic business was difficult to track with brokers playing things close to their chest.
In Asia, a few reported fixtures brightened up the day. One vessel, the Yangtze Keeper 2015-built 37,172-dwt, was covered delivery Singapore end July for a trip via Australia redelivery China with salt at a rate in the region of $7,250 daily. The Pan Kristine 2011-built 33,303-dwt fixed from CJK for a trip redelivery Persian Gulf at $7,500 daily.
