CAPESIZE
Rates started to ease after gains the end of last week and still momentum Monday. Gains in Brazil rates were almost eroded as bids dried up and owners started to reduce their rate ideas. As yet little fresh has been fixed Brazil but further north K-Line was rumoured to have taken Classic Maritime tonnage for a cargo from Port Cartier to Rizhao at $13.55 or $13.40.
TKS booked the Mineral Noble 170,649-dwt 2004-built for a 22 July-5 August 150,000-ton 10% cargo from Nouadhibou to Rotterdam at a rumoured $3.75. At end of last week Salzgitter put tonnage on subjects for cargo from Narvik to Hamburg around $3.40.
In the east Rio Tinto came in the market fixed its first ship at $4.75 for a 20 July onwards cargo from Dampier to Qingdao, then booked tonnage at $4.70 for 21 July and one at $4.65 for the same dates. The charterer was also linked to a Cara vessel for mid-July in the mid $4.000s possibly $4.55 although these ships normally go direct. The Savina 2011-built 176,045-dwt eta 15 July fixed at the end of last week and also probably to Rio Tinto.
Classic Maritime took a ship Monday for a West Australia/Qingdao cargo probably around $4.95 basis $299,000 disbursements. The 182,511-dwt 2014-built Leviathan, which had been open Jintang 28-29 June and due West Australia 14-15 July also fixed and this was suggested as the possible vessel to Classic Maritime.
PacBulk booked the SWS-built Cape Victory 177,000-dwt 2010-built from north China for an Australian round at $7,250 daily. There was that the Hebei Power 180,317-dwt 2010-built open Bayuquan 10 July went on subjects to DHL for a round voyage at $8,000 daily.
The result of a Hyundai Glovis tender was due today to move a 16-25 July 162,000-tonne 10% cargo from Roberts Bank to South Korea but little emerged.


PANAMAX
Trading started well with some firmer rates paid from South America then as the day progressed a few ships failed on subjects. It remained uncertain how many cargoes were left for July and whether August shipments will slow. The north Atlantic remained tight for tonnage and rates were holding, but so far little new reported booked from the US Gulf. Sources suggest there will be more cargoes for August and September and this market still has legs.
In the east, the rates were steady and there remained business to be fixed despite the occasional report of a ship failing on subjects.
Period trading was in evidence Monday and Vattenfall took the 79,642-dwt 2011-built Unity N from CJK 9-11 July for 6 to 9 months trading at $5,600 daily. The Seastrength 81,134-dwt 2011-built open south China 6-12 July, fixed on subjects to Oldendorff for 5 to 8 months trading at $6,750 daily. However since then paper values slipped today and charterers with period business reportedly backed off.

ATLANTIC
The 76,602-dwt 2005-built Orion III, a Cargill relet, fixed and failed with ADMI for delivery Cape of Good Hope for a trip via east coast South America to the east at $6,900 daily plus a $240,000 bonus. The Donghae Star 82,861-dwt 2012-built was reported fixing from east coast South America to the east at $8,300 daily and a $330,000 bonus but others said the ship fixed retroactively from Haldia at $6,750 daily, but a charterer was not disclosed. The Lyric Sun 81,450-dwt 2011-built went to Norden retroactive east coast India on the same run at close to $6,900 daily.
Sources said the 1999-built 73,127-dwt Fratzecos fixed on subjects for 15-16 July delivery east coast South America to the east at $7,750 daily plus a $275,000 bonus, but a charterer was not disclosed.
The 76,801-dwt 2004-built Rosco Cypress due Santos 20 July and the Agia Valenti 80,399-dwt 2012-built, which last heard 3 July Singapore, have both reportedly gone for South America cargoes.
Further north, Louis Dreyfus took the Amira 74,401-dwt 2001-built for a trip from Murmansk to the east, but a rate was not disclosed.
An undisclosed charterer took the Klaveness-controlled Hispanic G 2010-built 93,287-dwt from Rotterdam for a Baltic round at $7,000 daily while SwissMarine conceded $8,500 daily for the 87,378-dwt 2011-built Maria G.O from Brake spot for a trip via Murmansk to Jorf Lasfar.

ASIA
Cobelfret reportedly took the Abyo Oprah 82,551-dwt 2006-built for 9-11 July delivery Wakayama for a NoPac/south China run with coal at $6,000 daily.
Sinochart reportedly fixed and failed with the Archigetis 81,076-dwt fixed and failed spot Zhoushan for a trip via east coast Australia to Malaysia at $5,500 daily.
The Ioannis Zafirakis 73,305-dwt 2004-built spot Machong went for similar business at the same rate but a charterer was not disclosed.
The 81,500-dwt 2015-built Nord Penguin fixed dop Philippines for a trip via Indonesia to Malaysia at $7,000 daily, but charterer was not disclosed.
Cobelfret was said to be close to fixing the RWE relet Myrsini 82,193-dwt 2010-built for a 14-19 July 56,000 to 58,000-tonne alumina cargo from Bunbury to Reydarfjordur, Iceland at $12.50 basis 18,000 tonnes shinc and 10,000 tonnes shinc.
Elsewhere Norvic has a Post Panamax on subjects for a trip from Saldanha to west coast India at $6,500 daily plus a $175,000 bonus.


SUPRAMAX/HANDYSIZE
Not the busiest of Tuesdays with brokers suggesting a slight easing evident from the US Gulf and east coast South America.

ATLANTIC
A 57,000-dwt in ballast from west Africa was rumoured on subjects basis delivery Santos for a trip via Jeddah and redelivery Port Said at a tick under $9,000 daily. An unnamed 46,000-dwt was linked to a scrap run from the Continent to Turkey in the low $9,000s. From the end of last week, the Magnum Energy 53,628-dwt 2009-built was reported fixed basis delivery Tyne for a scrap run to Turkey at $8,250 daily. Very little else was surfaced.
For the smaller sisters, Cargill was linked to the Zenith Explorer 2008-built 28,343-dwt basis delivery Tampa for a trip with redelivery Singapore-Japan at $8,000 daily. Further south the Cassiopea Star 32,328-dwt 2005-built was reported basis delivery Rio Grande for a trip to south Spain at $7,250 daily.

ASIA
Brokers said the Star Kappa 2001-built 52,055-dwt was covered delivery Philippines prompt for a quick trip to China at $8,000 daily but the charterer was not disclosed. The Almasi 52,342-dwt 2001-built was rumoured fixed basis delivery Tokyo Bay trip with redelivery south-east Asia at close to $6,000. It was rumoured that a 57,000-dwt open Cigading fixed in the low $6,000s for a trip via Indonesia to south China. A 57,000-dwt was rumoured booked basis delivery Abu Dhabi trip redelivery Thailand at $5,000 daily. The Spar Hydra 2011-built 58,000-dwt missed cancelling for a trip basis delivery Merak via Australia to the Persian Gulf at $7,000 daily. Period business included a 60,000-dwt rumoured covered basis delivery India for 7 to 10 months trading at a rate around $7,000 daily.
Handysize remained quiet but brokers suggested that 28,000-tonners were now achieving in the low $6,000s for steels runs from China to south-east Asia. Otherwise, it was a slow day.
