CAPESIZE
A positive end to the week in both basins with tentative signs that the Atlantic market could make further gains.
There were still charterers there to move cargo from Puerto Bolivar to Rotterdam and allegedly had tonnage still around $5.20 with options but with other owners trying for more. There was talk that Bunge booked the Pantagruel 180,181-dwt 2004-built for a cargo from Drummond to Algeciras at $5.10 with the Puerto Bolivar/Rotterdam option at $5.15.
Brazil rates ticked higher with Cobelfret fixing SwissMarine tonnage for a 20-30 July cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao. There was talking that a SwissMarine vessel fixing a cargo from CSN to Qingdao at $9.50 basis 1.25% total commission. TKS also took SwissMarine for a 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Sepetiba and Guaiba to Rotterdam at $5.80.
Pacific Bulk was earlier reported fixing the Roberto Rizzo 176,189-dwt 2009-built for a 29 July onwards 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Saldanha Bay to Qingdao at $7.15, but there was some suggestion the business failed on subjects. Rumours of $7.25 paid has yet to be established.
In the east, the Cape Zenith, a 180,310-dwt 2004-built Louis Dreyfus relet, fixed for 6-8 July delivery Samcheonpo for a West Australian round with GNS at $8,000 daily 창?혫 a rate said to equate to $4.70 on voyage basis. K-Line today fully fixed the 171,810-dwt 2007-built Anangel Vision from Lianyungang 5-7 July for a West Australia round only (not with an option for the east coast as reported earlier) at $7,500 daily 창?혫 a rate said to equate to $4.90.
There had been rumours that one of the majors fixed at $4.70, but this, for now, has been discounted.
Rumours too that $11,000 daily was agreed on a period deal has to be confirmed.


PANAMAX
The South America market saw a push towards the end of the week with rates for Kamsarmaxes at something over $8,000 daily and a $300,000 bonus although charterers were for now sticking at $7,750 daily plus a $275,000 bonus. The pressure remained for 20-30 July although there were a few more ships for earlier dates but fewer cargoes those ships may possibly wait for the later positions keeping a lid on rates.
From the US Gulf, there has been a clear out of cargo but with a fresh input next week this market will continue to push on.
The north Continent was still short of early tonnage albeit not a significant amount of cargo. Rates have improved but much of the activity here remained under wraps.
Period rates strengthened with rates for short period for Kamsarmax tonnage hovering around the mid $6,000 daily for short period and over $7,000 daily for a year or more.
There was talk that the 95,712-dwt 2011-built Bulk Indonesia agreed $7,250 daily for one year basis PMO delivery, but sources said this was incorrect.
The Ecomar G.O. 75,093-dwt 2008-built spot Singapore was rumoured clean fixed for period business, but details were not disclosed.

ATLANTIC
There was talk that the Cape Kennedy 81,391-dwt 2012-built fixed at or close to $8,000 daily and a $300,000 bonus, but a charterer was not disclosed.
Raffles took the 80,282-dwt 2010-built Infinity for a 20-30 July at $7,750 daily plus a $275,000 bonus.
D횄짖횂?횂혲Amico booked the Tianjin Pioneer, 75,845-dwt 2015-built retroactive 26 June from Singapore for an east coast South American round at $6,500 daily. The Clara 77,073-dwt 2006-built was reported at the same rate but this was incorrect and $6,250 was agreed. The charterer remained private. Pacific Bulk took the 2005-built 75,349-dwt Danae earlier for 20-30 July delivery east coast South America (likely Santos) for the run to China at $7,400 daily plus a $240,000 bonus.
The Hispania Graeca 2001-built 74,133-dwt achieved $6,500 daily plus a $150,000 bonus for passing Cape of Good Hope delivery 8-10 July at $6,500 daily plus a $150,000 bonus, but the charterer was not reported.
The 74,063-dwt 1999-built Reborn failed with Itiro for a trip from east coast South America for 20-30 July and was now said on subjects with Smart Gain at $7,200 daily plus a $220,000 bonus.
Co-incidentally the 2001-built 75,106-dwt Danae went to Louis Dreyfus earlier this week for a trip from Paranagua to France at $8,000 daily.
Windrose took the Belo Horizonte 2012-built 81,681-dwt from Recalada 9-14 July for the run to Gibraltar-Skaw (not Cape Passero) at $7,500 daily.
The Chariklia Junior 92,932-dwt 2011-built due 17 July east coast South America fixed aps for a trip to the Mediterranean at $9,000 daily, but a charterer was not disclosed.
The 2000-built Seajoy 73,400-dwt went to Jaldhi for a trip 15-24 July Itacoatiara for a trip to the Continent at $9,500 daily aps, but sources said these details were incorrect.
It emerged today that United paid the Captain J. Neofotistis basis Gibraltar spot for a trip via Kamsar to China at $10,000 daily.
Sail covered a 21-30 July 75,000-tonne 5% cargo from Newport News to east coast India on subjects at $20.20 basis one port load and one discharge with $9,300 daily demurrage.
The 2011-built 93,112-dwt Saronic Trader open 4-9 July Hamburg was said on subjects for a transatlantic round, but little else emerged. A cargo fixed from Riga to Gijon, but details were not reported.

ASIA
The pace slowed in the east with little fresh reported. The 74,759-dwt 2005-built Cerafina open 4 July Dalian fully fixed with D'Amico for a NoPac round redel Singapore-Japan at $4,500 daily.


SUPRAMAX/HANDYSIZE
Friday feeling today with little talked about but rates rates remained on an even keel.

ATLANTIC
A 45,000-dwt was rumoured fixed with a large grain house for a trip from east coast South America with redelivery Persian Gulf, including Iraq, at $9,500 daily plus $100,000 ballast bonus. It was also rumoured that a 57,000-dwt was on subjects basis delivery West Africa for a transatlantic round in the mid $5,000s. The African Lunde 2014-built 61,300-dwt open Marmara was reported covered for a trip via the Black Sea to Singapore-Japan at $10,000 daily, but charterer was not disclosed. Otherwise little else came to light.
On the smaller sisters, the Azteca 36,053-dwt was linked to a trip from east coast South America to Iraq at $13,500. A 32,000-dwt was suggested to be on subjects for a trip from east coast South America to the Continent in the mid $7,000s, and a similar rate was rumoured for a 36,000-dwt with a Polish charterer. An unnamed 27,000-dwt was said to be on subjects from Imbituba to the Persian Gulf at $10,000 daily.

ASIA
An Ultramax was linked to Siva Bulk basis delivery north China for a trip via CIS Pacific to India in the high $8,000s. A 55,000-dwt open Nantong was understood to have been covered for a run to the Philippines at $7,250 daily. A backhaul was rumoured with the ER Brighton 55,783-dwt 2010-built basis Yantai redelivery in the Atlantic at $4,000 daily, but it was clear if a split rate was involved. On the period front, a 56,000-dwt 2012-built was rumoured to be on subjects for 5-10 months trading at $5,750 daily. The Olympic Pride 55,768-dwt 2012-built open Chittagong spot was rumoured covered for something from Durban, but details have yet to surface.
Little again was reported fixed for the handysizes.
