CAPESIZE
There appeared to be a rapid slide in rates from Brazil to China with talk today that Vale fixed a 5 July cancelling 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Tubarao to Qingdao at $8.60 over 50 cents lower than rates talked early Thursday. Details of the ship involved were not disclosed.
Thursday Kobe Steel awarded a tender to move a 25 July-3 August 150,000-tonne 10% cargo from Ponta Da Madeira to Kakogawa at a rate in the low $11.00s.
Further north, there was talk that EdF booked the Alexandra P 2009-built 181,000-tonner open Ijmuiden 21 June for a Narvik round at a rate in the low $5,000s. However, the business was talked but never concluded.
In the east, Rio Tinto was said to be still in the market for tonnage from West Australia to China, but earlier some had talked about lower rates agreed but with very little disclosed.
Jiangsu Steamship booked tonnage for a cargo from Indonesia to India at $4.15.
Panocean reportedly took the 179,428-dwt 2015-built Ioannis from Jintang 21 June for an Australian round at a good $8,350 daily.
However reports that the Densa Shark 2012-built 179,227-dwt open Shanghai 20 June was linked with Oldendorff for round voyage in the east at under $8,000 daily plus some said this was incorrect and the ship fixed for Singapore delivery in the mid $10,000 daily range.
Some sources suggested that Anglo American fixed Hyundai Glovis tonnage for a 3-5 July 170,000-tonne 10% cargo from Saldanha to Qingdao at $6.50.


PANAMAX
North Atlantic activity again remained piecemeal with a very few ships reported fixed and yet again most having to focus on east coast South America. There has been a fair amount of activity here both to the east and transatlantic and the former case rates at least remained steady relatively steady but the emphasis on June-early July and most cautious still for July. Today saw a mopping up day of ships fixed.
The east remained a very mixed bag with the senses stirred by some early reports and then shaken by reports of easier rates.
Period trading was in evidence but some business reported was done earlier in the week.
Noble Hong Kong booked the less well described Rainbow N for prompt delivery Tianjin for about a year at $5,500 daily.
Sources said Bunge fixed the Lucky Star 76,662-dwt 2002-built early this week for 4 to 8 months trading with Kunsan delivery at $5,000 daily.

ATLANTIC
The M2M relet Alkimos Heracles 81,922-dwt 2014-built open Praia Mohle 25 June was rumoured fixed for a trip to the east at $7,500 daily plus a $250,000 bonus on subjects, but a charterer was not disclosed.
Some said the Stella Belinda 81,700-dwt 2013-built open Visakhapatnam 20 June was rumoured booked for an east coast South American round in the low $5,000s daily range.
The Palona, 81,600-dwt 2014-built went to Ocean Basin for 23 June delivery east coast South America at a reportedly good rate, but little else emerged.
Transatlantic activity was maintained with the 82,298-dwt 2006-built Star Georgia booked for 3-4 July delivery east coast South America to the Italy at $8,000 daily with Cape Passero redelivery with Louis Dreyfus linked to the ship.
From this side, Norden covered a cargo from Aaheim to the Continent on subjects, but details remained private.
Polaris booked the Blumenau 82,000-dwt 2012-built from Liverpool 28-30 June for a trip via the St Lawrence to Cigading at $9,500 daily.
The Ulusoy 11 79,422-dwt 2011-built open Kavkaz was reported fixed for a trip via the Black Sea to India at $13.000 daily, but a charterer was not disclosed.

ASIA
Here the Maria 76,015-dwt 2003-built Qingdao 20 June fixed for an Australian round at $4,500 daily, but a charterer was not reported.
K-Line reportedly has a Kamsarmax on subjects for Japan delivery for a 1-10 July cargo from east coast Australia to India at rate in the low $4,000 daily range.
The Bettys Dream 82,641-dwt 2008-built was rumoured booked passing Taiwan 18 June for a trip via Indonesia to India, but details were not reported.
Oceanways paid the Golden Heiwa 76,596-dwt 2007-built $4,000 daily ex-dry dock Tsuneishi for a NoPac round with grain at $4,000 daily.
The Golden Eminence 2010-built 79,474-dwt open Inchon 18 June fixed on voyage basis to move a cargo from east coast Australia to China, but a rate was not reported.
Earlier this week it emerged that ADMI took the newbuilding RB Eden 82,000-dwt for aps Bayovar delivery for 2 laden legs with east redelivery at $6,000 daily plus a $347,000 bonus.


SUPRAMAX/HANDYSIZE
It was a quiet end of the week, but brokers suggested a bit of tightening in the US Gulf for prompt positions led to some higher numbers discussed.

ATLANTIC
A 61,000-dwt open Altamira 23-24 June was heard failed on subjects for a petcoke run to the Far East at $17,000 daily. Another 61,000-dwt was said to be on subjects basis delivery SW Pass for a trip to west coast Central America at $8,500 daily. It was said that the Strange Attractor 2006-built 55,742-dwt was fixed basis delivery Abidjan 20 June for a trip via Brazil redelivery India-Japan at $10,650 daily, but the charterer was not disclosed. The African Puffin 53,688-dwt 2005-built, open east coast South America was reported on subjects for a trip to the Mediterranean, the rate and charterer were unclear. The Beijing Venture 53,000-dwt also open east coast South America for June dates allegedly went on subjects for Atlantic business, but details were elusive. A 63,000-dwt open Dakar was rumoured booked on subjects for a short period.
For the smaller sizes, a 34000-dwt was understood to be on subjects basis delivery Paranagua for a trip to Rotterdam at $7,000 daily. J. Lauritzen was rumoured to have also taken a similar vessel on subjects from Up River to Continent in the mid $7,000s. A 38,000-tonne was reported fixed on subjects for a trip from Imbituba to the Black Sea in the mid $6,000s.

ASIA
A relatively quiet day here although a Tess 52,000 open Singapore was understood to have been fixed for a trip via Indonesia to China at $5,000 daily. An Ultramax open Singapore, was also described as on subjects basis delivery dop for a trip via Indonesia redelivery south China at $7,000 daily. It was reported that the Ocean Skipper 2010-built 56,815-dwt fixed basis delivery Lanshan for a trip via the Philippines redelivery China with nickel ore at $5,000 daily.
The Handysize information remained very slow today.
