CAPESIZE
Late trade saw a late burst of fixing particularly for the ballasters heading west. Brazil was active and appeared well supported but despite talk of improved numbers in the north Atlantic there was very little reported and some said even this was overplayed. The east saw little activity from the Australian majors today but the sentiment was marginally better.

ATLANTIC
There was increased trading from Brazil with Hyundai Glovis linked with the 179,156-dwt 2011-built Spartacus for eta 8 August Tubarao for Qingdao at $12.70. Some also suggested a mid-August position was done at $12.90. Sources said K-Line fixed the Kerkis for 1-10 August on Vale terms at possibly $12.65. Tonkolili took the 182,307-dwt 2011-built Global Mercator and the Koch Shipping relet Vega Dream 174,713-dwt 2010-built for 24 July onwards loading Pepel Qingdao at $13.40 and $13.50 respectively. Earlier Oldendorff took the 2010-built Knightship for a 1-10 August cargo on C3 at $12.45 with some suggestion that Trafigura booked the 170,018-dwt 2010-built Squireship but little emerged.

A tight Black Sea market for tonnage to load grain was reflected in sharply higher rates agreed. Sources said generally north Atlantic/Mediterranean tonnage remained tight and today saw activity from the US Gulf. Here sources said there was trading but much kept under wraps. The east so far was slower but here too rates were holding with tonnage still looking at South America business lending support to the local trades.

The Blumenau 82,265-dwt 2013-built had been linked with Oldendorff from Jebel Ali for the Black Sea/east business at $12,000 daily but this said allegedly could be for east coast South America business with the charterer which has been fixed.

There was talk that Bunge took the 2005-built 76,000-dwt Lord Byron for 20-25 July from the Gulf to Iran but this business failed and the ship is not ready until early August.
South America talk included a report earlier that the Orient Fortune 82,000-dwt 2013-built due CJK 20-21 July was booked for a trip via east coast South America to the east at a very firm $10,000 daily but a charterer was not disclosed.
